Got to poke around a pile of river rock that has been on a roof since the 1960s, so nobody really picked through it before. Every day I'm glad I am so easily amused.
A photo of five miscellaneous rocks picked out of a pile of river rock. One of them is Milky quartz that looks like the tip of a thumb, there is a gray mudstone with some really pretty stripes, a cold water agate specimen that looks crumpled and foldy, a piece of what we both think is fossilized Coral that hasn't been fully crystallized, and a red rock with holes in it. Wear tiny agates used to be and you can see white rings of druzy around a lot of the bigger holes, and you can see that some of them are still filled with small round quartz formations that never fell out.

I don't know what's wrong with me, normally I'm not into this many flowers, but it's super satisfying to have managed to find really affordable floral sheets that work so well with this IKEA duvet cover.

For #ThingThursday this is what I'm working on today. Little collage surprises for friends. Going to try to do this quarterly as part of my processing of the seasons. See if I can pull off staying in touch with Mail friends better. I'm not even sure they're quite done yet!

Each one had a wildflower playing card from the spades set ace through 5 that is folded over in some way, a black and white photo of a piece of clock jewelry, and paper oak leaves made out of crumpled paper bag paper. Some are plain and some have been tinted with markers. They kind of look like a bunch of stuff sprinkled on them haphazardly but it's all on purpose.

When we looked at this house, I knew it was going to be beautiful with a bed like this. It feels so good to see it look like it looked in my head. If you see the shiny spots on the ceiling, that's glow-in-the-dark paint because we stenciled the night sky of the northern hemisphere on our ceiling.
A photo of the bed part of the bedroom that I share with my husband. It is an attic room with a sloped ceiling on either side and a window in the firewall, basically a perfect little nook for a bed, with the ceiling curling around. On the firewall, one of my ancestors old fiddles hangs, along with a sweet grass braid, some small paintings, and photos of my husband and I for our engagement, at our wedding, and on our honeymoon. You'll also see a large collage on the right side of this photo that is an oversized strawberry with diamonds sprinkled on it and an antique Valentine image in the middle, with rays of Blue sky coming out from around the strawberry. So it looks like the sacred heart of Christ. There are flowers involved, and large black and white photos of Apollo and Aphrodite statues. The bed itself is an antique steel bed with a head and footboard with five vertical plane bars in each. There is a beige colored dust ruffle, a lighter beige blanket, and a green, white, yellow, sage green, and blush botanical print bedspread from Ikea with matching pillowcases. The blankets are folded down and you can see I have kind of a cartoon log bolster pillow with bugs on it and one of those ubiquitous internet bread pillows that my kid gave me. We have mismatched nightstands. On mine. You can see my white noise machine and vape and a basket of my various meds and things, and on his side you can see our air purifier, his ear plugs because I snore like hell, etc. You look so beautiful and cozy. You can see a line in the carpet where our previous Ikea bed frame used to rest. That will need to puff up a bit before it blends back in. But it looks like it was made for this space.

SO CLOSE HOLY SHIT Yes it is off center but we are not done yet. Next up fixing the mattress.

I didn't even hear a single squeak when we carried this into the house and all the way up the stairs. Today really is the day.
One of those old, open spring units for a vintage/antique bed where there is no fabric covering anything, it is just a series of coils all tethered together with smaller springs on a metal frame. It looks industrial and strange propped up against the wall of my bedroom

I had a red, orange, and green coffin survive until my mid-twenties. I always loved how the vintage candy was sort of wrench-shaped and confusing at first.

I just went ahead and served dinner in take out container dishes because I thought there were going to be leftovers, but nope. We each powered through the whole thing!
CW food A photo of a burrito bowl style thing with quinoa at the top, then a bunch of steak and black beans, then a street corn flavored chopped salad covered in freeze-dried corn and whatever sprinkly things came in the kit. There's a little pile of pickled jalapenos, onions, and carrots in there, and then an avocado crema is squeezed in sort of a swirl across all of the surfaces. We are downsizing from a queen size to a full size with this bed, and I am going to save hundreds on a new mattress by just cutting 5 in off the bottom of our current memory foam mattress, and slapping a new cover on it.

It has a really cool patina after having men's stripped, cotton. Rusty, and had the rust scrubbed back off, for the most part. A close up photo showing the top of the footboard rail where you can see little dark specks where the surface is stained, where rust used to be. A photo showing the detail around the bottom of the legs which looks like a couple rows of piped edging with a row of circular dots raised up encircling the foot. There is a bunch of paint that we still could not get off of here after four rounds of scraping, but it looks in line with the rest of the piece

I just did my nails yesterday. Every time I paint my nails because I'm stuck in bed and bored, they're ruined as soon as I start feeling better.

The only room of our house that hasn't been totally repainted is now our bedroom. It is still the awful dirt cheap weird house flipping off white but I feel like adding this switch plate here is nudging me toward some kind of green.

That drying is set in a very large ornate Victorian wooden frame that has sort of an arch at the top with dowels radiating around it to fill the rest of a rectangle, giving it the look of sort of a Saint painting. There is a thin veneer of a beautiful stripy wood on the front of the frame that is cut to slightly mirror each other, and you can see a damaged area on the bottom right where it was dropped on top of something and there's a big chunk taken out of the bottom of the frame, but it works. Below it, not quite centered because this picture likes to slide around, you. You see a brown stained wooden switch plate with delicate, orange and yellow and green rosemaling flowers painted on.

I'll just try one kit, I said. This isn't even all of them, I have about a half dozen on other shelves and I think four unbuilt kits in reserve. I really am going to need another shelf. This is the absolute limit for this one, and I want to give them more breathing room.
One of those old mid-century three-tiered knick-knack shelves with a mirror in the back. It is filled to the brim with boutique eggs. There are three eggs that are made with velvet ribbons in peach, green, and lavender. That are the kind where you attach everything to a styrofoam egg with pins. Two of those have rabbits inside of them. There are several eggs on their side the long way on ornate stands and browns pinks, turquoises. There are all kinds of eggs. Some are always open with figures inside, some have cabinet doors, some have little oval doors with cameos glued on that open. All kinds of colors. They are all made with fancy beaded trims and gold and silver filigree ornaments and cords and some of them have crystals. It just looks like, at first glance, a sea of Faberge eggs. There are 18 in total here, all different.

This is my third try doing the same exact thing, and I am clearly going to have to practice a lot, and I probably shouldn't do it on days when my hands don't want to cooperate. Still, I understand the technique now so I'm ready when a better day comes.

It looks like a flower, made out of a coil, and you can see in some places that the hair is not tensioned the same. So the loops/ petals of the flowers are different sizes. But you get the idea.

The last time I wanted to learn to do hair work, there were no resources online at all but I found a video tutorial for one of the most prominent basic techniques. So I guess maybe it's time for me to try to do something with all of these bags of hair. (I always wanted to make a family hair wreath)

Ok, here it is! Not my best execution of one of these kits, but the person who built the example for the packaging on this kit didn't do a perfect job either.
A trinket box shaped like a goose egg with the longest pointiest side facing downward, resting on a stand made of stacked gold filigree elements. The egg itself is covered with translucent, pink and blue iridescent beads in kite and diamond and triangle shapes outlined by a thin braided gold cord. There is a finial made up of a couple of gold filigree elements holding a large fake Pearl at the top. You can see that it is split a little bit higher than middle with a couple layers of gold cord. That's where it will open. The same egg trinket box, this time it is opened up so you can see that the top and bottom are both lined with pink velvet, with the bottom having sort of a shallow storage layer with a pink velvet bottom. There is a gold chain on the left side connecting the top and bottom pieces together on the inside so the lid doesn't fully fall over when it's opened.

I decided not to put this sticker on Roger's house because I like how natural it looks, but I definitely put it on the isopod bin and if it ever lines up for a good photo op, it's going to be an amazing day

I don't really see my isopods because there aren't very many in the bin yet, and I only started with 10. About once a week when I check the edges before I feed them, I will see one or two and It makes me really happy when I see signs of life!

People say you can't be friends with a crustacean, because they can't talk, but Roger pretty clearly has decided that he is done with the green sand and wants something else in his supplement bowl.
A photo of part of my hermit crab Rogers House, focused on the floor in the area where his food dish and supplement bowl usually go. Go. The substrate is sand mixed with cocoa fiber, there are a lot of decomposing different kinds of leaves on most of the surface along with sunflower petals and Moss. You can see his regular food dish is right up against the edge of the glass here full, beautiful, undisturbed. Right next to it is a pile of green powder made up of green sand and crushed oyster shells. It used to be in his bigger, round supplement bowl, which is now tipped up on its side and leaning against the door of his main hide as though he is showing disapproval of the current blend he's had for about a week.
