I think we all love the reduced boilerplate we get from being able to assign a value directly from a switch while assigning it directly to a value.

But sometimes one clause creeps in that needs more logic. With many cases, adding return anywhere is laborious and also unnecessary:

💻 Apple just released the Xcode 26.1.1 update. And after using it for a few hours, I’m happy to report that the bug in Simulator that caused Macs to overheat and drain the battery is gone 🥳

🙏 Thank you, good developers at Apple! Updates like this are a huge quality-of-life improvement.

Xcode users. If your Mac is getting unusually warm running Xcode 26.1 (17B55) and macOS 26.1 check the Console for MercuryPosterExtension.ips files filling the crash reports. In ActivityMonitor, "ReportCrash" will be burning up your CPUs. It's related to SwiftUI Previews. FB20986632

Getting lots of developers in my email lately, asking for work. Not just low wage country developers either.

Where does that trend come from?

I’m religious when it suits me. More specifically, I worship gods. Those 10x engineers who can do stuff with technology I can only dream of being capable of.

Today, I’m praying to MxIris, who can look inside Apple’s private frameworks and extract all the internal Swift code like it’s nothing.

Many of us here have issues with Apple right now. I have assembled my thoughts and, as I see it, there are two main problems.

Here's the deal. You share with me why you are the perfect candidate to receive a free ticket to Do iOS in November. On behalf of @Guardsquare we can allocate 2 tickets to the perfect candidates.

Suggesting another person is also ok. DM, reply, email, any channel is ok.

Just ordered a Fellow Prismo for my AeroPress.

I'm not into Espresso at all, but I do like a strong coffee as a base for a latté or some other milk-based coffee.

Any experiences?

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

Dilemma:

- Buy an M4 or M4 Pro Mac mini now, and have a lot more performance now
- Wait until the M5 drops, and buy the M4 or M4 Pro anyway for less money

Early 2026 is a bit late for me to upgrade, but the benchmarks have been seen in the wild already

As demonstrated by my friend Kaustubh Debnath on X, iOS 26 renders Liquid Glass UI in HDR! Taps on bottom nav bars trigger specular highlights, peaking at around 350 nits.

The slam shut sound is missing though. Or that’s in the paid version?
Did you know your MacBook has a sensor that knows the exact angle of the screen hinge?

It’s not exposed as a public API, but I figured out a way to read it and make it sound like an old wooden door.

I got to meet one of my childhood heroes, Roberta Williams, and talk to her for hours and it's one of the coolest experiences of my life. That will only make sense to a narrow band of you, but I'm fine with that. Big thanks to @gameinformer.com for asking me to do this. Roberta Williams. The legend.

We connected King’s Quest creator Roberta Williams to comedy writer Mike Drucker, who may be her biggest fan, for a conversation about the series’ legacy and a generation’s connection to it.
