The thing about all these pieces complaining about Marine Le Pen's conviction is that not a single one of them bothers to explain why someone found guilty of embezzling millions of Euros from public funds should be allowed to get away with it

The people have lost faith in politics.

Politicians seem above the law. They are corrupt. They use public money for their own benefit. They lie to the public about who funds them.

That is why we must allow the convicted criminal who embezzled from the public purse to run.

there's apparently now a view in every right-leaning British publication that nothing ought to be done about the far right, ever - they should be able to say whatever they want and do whatever they want, yet remain untouchable, and it's becoming increasingly hard not to parse it as outright support

Putin comes against Le Pen ruling. Authoritarians hates any possibility of legal restraint on their leadership. Trump will doubtless do the same. Journalists do not have to follow this framing. There is zero reason for them to start a report by questioning whether the ruling is democratic.

In case you missed this: the discussion around delivery rider behaviour/illegal ebike use too often ignores wider economic pressures, including from the app-based delivery model. We discuss that, plus how the tech has morphed to be even worse for riders, with a fascinating guest
🚨New episode! Ned, Laura and Adam meet to talk about delivery riders in the gig economy. Laura finds a happy rider, and we interview author and academic Callum Cant about the reality for riders, and the creep of AI in our lives
