I brought up once how people never play the master system versions of the 8bit sonic games even though they play better and someone said "well sega never rereleases those." And that really puts into perspective that if somethings not readily available people just wont seek out the game.

I feel like chiptune is so inherently tied to programming that making it without any understanding of a specific system limitation youre aiming for (as opposed to just a general sound) is just setting yourself up for failure. You're not making anything convincing without proper research.

This is moreso a problem with what I call "industry chiptune" where its chiptune made for a high budget professional product and created by people who would otherwise never make chiptune. You have to approach chiptune completely differently from any other form of music which is why this happens.

You should really listen to Carrie and Lowell if thats what you like about Sufjan Stevens, the whole album is just what youre describing. I would recommend the group Ghost Mice too but admittedly the vocals are really abrasive so its an acquired taste.
