Good thing I don't currently have work, and have a background in events management. And there's a staunch advisory group of SA mob. Because frankly it wouldn't happen

Organising an exciting afternoon of Blak/Palestinian writers, to be held in SA some time in the vacant AWW timeslot (inc interstate speakers). In less than 6 weeks! Can SA mob make this happen? We can!

There didn’t used to be “white people.”

There used to be English and French, Spaniards and Italians, Germans and Portuguese, Dutch and Irish.

So on and so forth.

“White” is a sociopolitical consolidation of power under a broadly European umbrella for the express purpose of harming others.

The autobiography concludes its section on this conversation interestingly:

"I [Harry Belafonte] felt as if our moorings were unhinging. "Damn, Martin! If that's what you think, what would you have us do?" I asked.
He gave me a look. "I guess we're just going to have to become firemen.""

the famous quote is from the end of his reply to Young. from the middle:

"...we live in a failed system. Capitalism does not permit an even flow of economic resources. With this system, a small privileged few are rich beyond conscience and almost all others are doomed to be poor at some level."

Young replies: ""Well, I don't know, Martin. It's not the entire system. It's only part of it, and I think we can fix that."

King's reply begins: "I don't need to hear from you, Andy," he said. "I've heard enough from you. You're a capitalist, and I'm not."

King elaborated: I feel their rage. I feel their pain. I feel their frustration. It's the system that's the problem, and it's choking the breath out of our lives."

this is what starts the conflict.

King had just arrived from Newark, where he'd had a contentious meeting with Amiri Baraka and comrades - he had tried to talk them out of pursuing a more militant, uprising based strategy there. King was frustrated: "...I wholly embrace everything they feel! It's just the tactics we can't agree on."

the last member of the group: Andrew Young, eventual mayor of Atlanta. According to Harry Belafonte (who gives this account of the conversation in his autobiography), the quote about the burning house was the outcome of a conflictual back and forth between Young and King.

“But what deeply troubles me now is that for all the steps we've taken toward integration, I've come to believe that we are integrating into a burning house."

Dr. King said this famous quote on March 27th, 1968, mere days before his murder. But the context around the quote is interesting...

German Jews were citizens of Germany at the start of 1933. By the end of 1933, the Nazis had
removed citizenship from naturalized citizen Jews.

In 1935, all German Jews were fully stripped of their German citizenship.

Citizenship under dictatorships is contingent for targeted minorities.

Please donate to Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah's legal campaign!

Among Palestinian Australians, she has been targeted the most frequently + most brutally. Chip in whatever you can, please! We need to show folks like Malinauskus that there are consequences for his behaviour.

It’s terrible that his name is just now being circulated, but now that it is, continue to say his name.

Advocates argue that the off-duty ICE agent wasn't trained for the situation and should have called police and waited for them to arrive.

Reading Black and Native histories will rip the scales from your eyes, about the lies White Americans tell themselves about themselves, and their country.
Which is why this administration is so insistent on re-whitening media, academia and public history (museums, etc)
But.
Yeah.
This thread.
Black folks are not being "mean" to you when we are truthful concerning the historical pathologies of your kinsmen...
