Generally floundering. Yogi, knitter, walker, sci fi nerd, occasionally sweary, Scottish, retired engineer, frequent user of the block button, rehomed Elsie the German Shepherd. She/her
He was very prominent in Scotland but I don't know how much he was part of the non Scottish cultural psyche.

I know tomato ketchup is supposed to be good for getting some wildlife pong out of dog fur, can't remember if it works on fox. Thankfully apart from tracking us to the poop dump, Elsie doesn't get too involved with it. It's such an acrid tan, it really settles on your tongue when you breath it in.

Exactly. I have a few places I really like to go to and they do exactly that. Straightforward toasties, teacakes etc. The cake and coffee were lovely, and I read my book in peace and quiet, but will stick to the others for lunch.

No idea but it seems to bump up the price and I'm not willing to risk the excitement of it being something I'd react to. What's wrong with cheese and tomato?

First visit to the cafe, coffee and cakes good but sandwich/toastie menu too fancy for my tastes. Nduja featured twice,I rest my case. However they do sell their surplus sourdough loaves so came home with one and it's lovely

Can relate, was one of the many things mine said to me in that vein. I decided distance was the healthiest thing and moved a very long way away. I'm now responsible for her care, she's bloody lucky I've turned out to be a better person than I might have.

I have a pal who has a degree in philosophy and did his masters in philosophy of religion. He loves it when they come to his door. I had a fun hour with one who came into the garden and was met with a mud covered me who was studying yoga philosophy at the time and keen to debate via the sutras.

In that case, our goldfinches are a better class of goldfinches than yours, though they have bred like rabbits this last few years and are very stroppy when I try to use bits of my garden during nesting season. ( autocorrect went for bred like rabbis, good job I spotted it.)

I only put sunflower kernels out for the birds now. No drop in variety of species but big drop in mess and waste. Very pricey but better value.

Here's the sound of a pebble bouncing across a frozen lake at the Wetlands in January.

Sound ON!

[AD=misty light over the frozen water on a grey day. Flats and pylons in the distance across the water.]

Yup, I paid £90 for the covid booster but I blagged a free flu jab by ticking the carer box on the basis that at my age it's highly likely and I didn't put on any make up when I went so I looked tired and grey 😏
