oh that's wonderful!
yes, cellular automata are a very direct through-line to some very interesting questions.

i was thinking it would behave in a euclidean fashion, but the other possibility is interesting to consider! i have some spell ideas which are closely related to that.

oh that's interesting! reverting eg a door or a wall you can mine could be interesting as a resource exchange.

yes exactly! so it has an interesting information function. or it might do things like give you a wooden door which is clearly from an indoor space on a cavern wall, which would tell you there was a set of furnished chambers somewhere..

oh shuffling traps is a good idea. you might make it either more or less disarmable or possible to circumnavigate.

i want to eventually add functionality for sampling a character in the text mode and showing what unicode character it is, and also selecting a glyph and writing it to the current text cipher so you can test out what it's like in the game, live.

they're all cellular automata in the same family. a few different closely related rules. if anyone wants to write an implementation, i'm happy to share details (it's a little involved, but not bad if you've done CA before)

i haven't put them in the game yet but plan to later today!
i've been meaning to find some time to finish implementing a feature where you can zoom in on part of the field within the CA editor, and walk around in it as a single pixel. i think that would be so good for getting a feel for it.

it appears to be 6 key rollover. i'd prefer n but i think there are input limitations with this diy microcontroller + keycount combo (it uses a matrix).

i unfortunately don't know enough to do PCB design, but i would like to learn. this is the sofle choc, which i find works very well for me! nice layer zero modifiers and F keys, which is nice for programming. i like the column stagger on the sofle 2 more though.

if you are a tinkerer and get into ergonomic keyboards, this is a frequent, if not the only, end result.

i hope so! such a compelling setting. and i feel like the character work / choreography of it all is really flowing well.
