Buys too many books and misses livejournal

Interview with the Vampire
Stacks of books comfort me, remind me I can buy whatever book I want, feeding that 14 yr old self that was starving to Read Anything. But that capacity and hunger is rarely with me now. My timetravel fantasy sends all these books to my 12 yr ol’self.

While I'm still puzzled by most Christmas cards, specially when they're pictures of the people sending them, I think I'm also coming to appreciate them more. It could be just getting older. However, its going to be at least a decade before I decide I want to print my face and send it to other humans

On this month’s Supercontext episode we research and discuss Philip K. Dick’s VALIS trilogy. We try to unpack these books against the backdrop of our contemporary situation to gain a little clarity on our middle age and growing paranoia.

So, Tijuana, it’s the 90s and I just figured out how to get my Radio Shack modem to connect me to my CETYS email account and Netscape. The wonders of very slow internet opened up. It was downhill from there, wasn’t it? At least I got to experience Livejournal before ads and Russia.

Tender is the Flesh. So, immediately googled that last line, to find other people trying to figure out wtaf. Found answer partly in the subtleties of translation. The words “look” and “gaze” are close, but hit different, and it might be the translator chose wrong

I completely forgot about Dune:Prophecy. Did it get better? I tried but fell off by episode 2. #Duneprophecy

My IG feed went from 1/3 cats, 1/3 movies and travel, 1/3 politics and rage bait, to rage bait all the time ☹️

Rewatching S1 of The Diplomat, after starting 2.1 and realizing I had no idea what any of the character names were or what they did. How many months/years passed between S1 and 2 anyway?

Trying to see if can gain some weight after I lost it without trying. Made the mistake of mentioning it to some friends who immediately told me they wish they had that problem. No, no you dont, specially after a recent cancer scare. They doubled down on the insane comments ☹️😟

Spotify includes audiobooks, and I just found The Fellowship of the Ring, read by Andy Serkis. It is, as I had hoped, a delight. #lotr #spotify #audiobooks

We got to the Morland Holmes episodes on our Elementary rewatch. He is so fun to watch, playing the menace up to 11.

The neighborhood had a big Virgen de Guadalupe procession. I’m fond of these kinds of things, I’m touched by the devotion and tradition, but a big part of me recoils. I wonder how many of my fellow MX descendant people have values completely different from me. Got handed an antichoice flyer 😕 ☹️

So, Dune:Prophecy. The dialogue is rough. Maybe it can seed some fic, that would be great, but I found the second episode so meh that it makes me sad

Someone threw an uncooked wiener at our front window. Is this a TikTok thing?

Dune:Prophecy had a heavy info dump at the start that has me a little worried. I liked the episode, but man oh man, that was a lot for any casual viewer.

Ever gone back to read an old fic and realized you had forgotten just how damn smutty the thing was? Ah, those early days after Winter Soldier were precious.

I was in Tijuana yesterday. The traffic, JFC, it feels like 5 times what it used to be. And its going to get worse, with San Diego prices being insane. The small house next door just got rented for $5,200/mo. HOW? We are not anywhere near the beach!
