I don’t know the people you’re White Elephanting with but my assumption is that if they‘re under 40 they love The Grandpa From Modern Family, if they’re over 40 they love Al Bundy, and if they’re real sickos they’re like “Blue Chips was underrated”

if you’re just going for influence alone, I think spot #4 has to go to Hill Street Blues. if it’s for a mix of influence and quality, it’s The Wire because The Wire is obviously superior to HSB but also almost surely wouldn’t exist without it

Ed O’Neil is legit beloved. I think Harris is too if you’re super into movies but if you’re not I think he’s “oh yeahhhh, him, I know him” famous

RIP Lance, so so so good as Daniels. The overall point though is that The Wire didn’t leave much measurable impact on the medium of television beyond its own legacy, and you can’t say that about Twin Peaks, The Sopranos, The Simpsons, or many of the contenders for the fourth spot on TV Mt. Rushmore.

you can’t have a TV Mt. Rushmore without The Sopranos, Twin Peaks, and The Simpsons. The Wire probably deserves that fourth spot but I don’t know if you could make an argument for its lasting impact beyond essentially introducing America to Idris Elba.
