I've had a missile blow up next to my airplane, been shot at dozens of times by anti-aircraft fire, and launched into orbit — all for my country. I never thought I'd see a President call for my execution.

Trump doesn’t understand the Constitution, and we're all less safe for it.

Share this with the ranchers and farmers and federal workers not getting paid and the people who just lost SNAP benefits.
A little apt metaphor, on the other hand,…

Trump is at the Halloween party at MAL

“Official theme is Gatsby and ‘a little party never killed nobody’, we’re told.”

I'm the English dept chair at my high school. I have recommended that my dept read this so we can discuss it. I have spent countless hours of my life over the last 19 years reading, commenting on, and grading student writing, all with the goal of helping them to become better writers. (1)
Vital words on why educators should push back against using plagiarism-slop machines for grading: "grading written responses is messy by design. It’s also one of the most human activities we can do within teaching." 1/2
I strongly urge everyone to not just read this warning from @marcwatkins.bsky.social, but heed it, and be vocal and forceful pushing back against using AI to grade student writing. This must be anathema if we're going to have a world where learning means something. substack.com/inbox/post/1...

It hurts my heart to see a human being thrown to the ground for exercising her 1st amendment right to protest. It's hurts more to see a TV personality celebrate that mistreatment. You know damn well that Laura would call for firings if the woman being physically mistreated was MAGA.
I was reliably told celebrating political violence was cause for government reprisal and private sector termination.

A grim reminder: these people will never be satisfied. There’s no point at which they will say “we’ve won, let’s enjoy life.” They will always be looking for someone else to punish, to revile, to dehumanize. They’re empty without that.

On the morning of 9/11/2001, it wasn’t Democrats or Republicans that were attacked, but the United States.

Today is not just the anniversary of one of the darkest days in modern history, but a reminder that we are all Americans first.

We've launched a new D.C. campaign demanding that federal agents take off their masks — because public servants should face the public.

Our posters and mobile billboard will be blanketing the District, demanding accountability.

Of all the things they SHOULD HAVE talked about...I mean, they only had a few hours to talk peace deal, and they talk about THIS? I call BS.
Trump: "Vladimir Putin said something- one of the most interesting things. He said 'your election was rigged because you have mail in voting. It's impossible to have mail in voting & have honest elections.' He said that to me because we talked about 2020. He said, 'you won that election by so much'"

Uh oh.
Remember when Trump’s CEA chair, Stephen Miran, assured us that his policies would cause the dollar to rise, thereby softening the extent to which tariff-fuelled higher prices boost inflation and undermine purchasing power?

I'm a public school teacher. If I don't like my year-end evaluation, can I fire the person who gave it to me?

Wow. Good for Senators Padilla and Booker. They certainly got an education.

Two years ago, we invited all 100 senators to work in the fields. Only two of them accepted: Alex Padilla and Cory Booker.

Posting this as a general note: I continue to see people responding to my posts with suggestions that ICE and CBP officers are deputized right wing militia, or J6ers, or things like that.

I want to emphasize again that there is NO evidence for this. Not a single credible source has confirmed it.

One of my state's senators is against the Big Bullsh*t Bill. Good for him. Thank you, @fetterman.senate.gov
Not one single Democrat will vote for the “big beautiful bill.”

I’m here to vote on these amendments and keep the ball rolling.

I’m a HARD NO on the final bill and won’t support cutting Medicaid, SNAP or adding up to $5T to our national debt.

I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving.

There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later.

I need to remember this. I'm learning about AI as a teacher, the ways it can help me to do my job, and the ways some of my students use it to avoid having to think. But it is a technician at best...not the origin of unique ideas and creativity.
The good part of AI is that the only thing a writer can do to combat it is to become more human. Make your writing weirder, hornier, more violent, absurd, poetic, difficult, political, jagged, dreamlike, ironic, surreal, alive. You don't have any choice but to plumb the depths.
