A while back a friend posted this prompt, "Ruin a movie title by adding the letter r," and because hyper-focus will make you extra for no apparent reason, I made posters. Just stumbled on them again, glad they still make me laugh
Speaking of Naomi Klein:

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

The CIA just stopped publishing their World Factbook and took every page, including the archived copies of previous versions!

This sucks. It was public domain, so I recovered the 2020 edition (the last one published as a zip file) and shared it to GitHub simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/5/t...
Spotlighting The World Factbook as We Bid a Fond Farewell
Somewhat devastating news today from the CIA: One of CIA’s oldest and most recognizable intelligence publications, The World Factbook, has sunset. There's not even a hint as to why they …

1/ At some point your feed is going to fill up with the news that the SEC is under pressure to abandon disclosure requirements for things like ESG (environmental, social, governance) and climate change, and that they might drop reporting requirements from quarterly to every 6 months. Buckle up. 🧵

This is unreal. An AUSA talking like that in open court is about as close as you can come to a total breakdown. Never heard of anything like it.

Finance and startup bros getting excited about expected increases in venture activity this year, which the VC industry openly attributes to finding new use cases for AI. This is a good time for MBAs to learn about 1st- and 2nd-order Jevons rebounds... #AlgernonPoint #ClimateCrisis

Just caught a typo on my to-do list, instead of "potential follow-up", "portential follow-up". You open your inbox and a booming, echoing voice from the sky, "PER MY LAST EMAIL..."

(Portia-ntial follow up, "GO TO THE SENATE AND SEE IF BRUTUS LOOKS WELL." I could just keep mispelling forever.)

The cap ex of the AI industry is so massive its vacuuming funds away from trad deal sectors like M&A. Ditto, obviously, with the available VC capital. Patrick Bateman is laughing maniacally and crying

Every time a new song on my feed catches hold of me and I look over to see what's playing, it's Blood Cultures or Jean Dawson

I won't lie, I was touched to hear Rufus Wainwright in a Trek episode. The future San Fran I might want to see. Of course, the braver choice would have been "Going to a Town"

I’m starting to see the adverse effects of AI on #duolingo. I’m studying chess and the exercises are wrong more and more often. Telling me the wrong choice when I’m promoting a pawn, telling me that I just made a pawn sacrifice when I didn’t, telling me to take materiel instead of mate, then […]

Just saw Park Chan Wook's latest, and after all that wicked laughter and uneasy ending, I was moved to see he'd dedicated it to Costa-Gavras.

(And maybe he'd like an invite to DiEM25...)

Someone called the police on my 9 year old when she was at the park in our neighborhood by herself. The officer told me she’s not allowed to go until she’s 11… I called the non-emergency number and that officer told me there is no such rule. 🙄
