I never saw the point in buying this death certificate as I knew what happened to Richard. But I got it, so it's part of the records.

Just been researching my 2nd cousin 2x removed George Towns.

The words "this aircraft failed to return" seem to hit differently 😔

Finally, I got around to scanning my Grantham Photographers collection.

This is a cabinet card, taken by F G Simpson of 17 Wharf Road, Grantham.

This story is about a 1st cousin 3x removed. The girl had lost her mother in 1923. This was in 1926.
She may have been mentally dull due to the fact she had lost her mother.

Would you say a man who took in and brought up 2 off his daughters illegitimate children, one of whom he has down as his own son, children of 1 his dead daughters is right to be thought of as a strict man that people wanted to run away from? Or did he just lose too many ppl and wanted people safe?

What is the best way to scan or take decent photos of CDV's or cabinet cards? Like this example, some just do not turn out right at all.

Just found my 4th Great Grandfather in the 1841, he is 45, which means a birth year around 1796, which also means at his first marriage in 1816 he was only about 20, so that could indicate why it states it was with the consent of guardian, With my 4th Great Grandmother being 32.

Whilst looking through a recent Grantham Bygone book, I came across this image.

It is an image from 1915-1916 when women took jobs at the local station due to the ongoing war.

These are railway engine cleaners, and one could well be my Grand Aunt Louisa Maud Swain.

Every other day, I sit and look at these photos. Is it a brother and his sisters when he is going off to war? Are there any other clues about his uniform apart from the machine gun corps? The nunbers on the bottom would suggest there might be more photos.

Today in 1816 in Branston, Leicestershire my 4 x Great Grandparents William Swain and Eleanor / Ellen Johnson married.

On the marriage banns it states " in the confent of guardians"

Why would they need guardians?

Was William a servant? Was he underage? I know Eleanor was of age from that parish

In 1857, my 4x Great Grandfather died. This man, even though I know a few bits, is a brick wall of mine. Although this states an age at death, I do not believe this to be true.

When he married in 1816 to Eleanor Johnson, it was documented with "with consent of guardians." Eleanor was of age.
