A couple of you remember Lou Guzzo. Fun reference to him starting around 14:35 in this great video on The Sonics’s Seattle-iconic album. (He was a dick.)

You are ABSOLUTELY NOT going to regret listening to this bird:
A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.

A bird forever warning people: "A werewolf!" (just in case of werewolves).

RIP Todd Snider. One of the greats, an unheralded songwriters' songwriter and a genuine character. Loved and proselytized for almost as long as I've been a music critic. A guy not only influenced by Prine/Kristofferson/Jerry Jeff but he seemed to come out of the same world.

Genocide in the middle of Europe, so quickly forgotten, except in Serbians’ gleeful songs celebrating it.

Also, in a recent Rec Diffs you started to mention the women in TFS then the conversation went elsewhere. Where was the TFS comment going?

Today we drove under a huge boulder on the Long Canyon road, and visited Dead Horse State Park, one part of Canyonlands National Park, some showers, a pub and tee shirt shops. Moab’s been amazing (and tiring), on to Bears Ears and Natural Bridges.

Currently on a two week road trip with my brother, retracing our footsteps from essentially the same trip with our kids, 22 years ago. The kids are grown and have jobs so it’s just us. We’re staying in the exact campsite outside Moab that we did then. Today was Arches NP.

I’m in, supporting The August Foundation and The Tundra Women’s Coalition. It’s been a fun Iditarod, enhanced by the good work of #mushersky and not a few #uglydogs. #igivearod
We’ve just exceeded an amazing $46,000 in donations, including 72 funded projects for 39 schools and nearly $7,000 for other Alaska organizations including housing and support for LGBTQ+ people, medical care for animals, funding for arts programs, and funding for shelters. #igivearod #mushersky
As the Iditarod and Igivarod complete the 8th day, y'all have contributed over $41,000 to Alaska school projects and Alaska nonprofit organizations!! That includes $2000 to the Alaska Veterinary Outreach for spay/neuter and vaccinations in remote Alaskan villages. bit.ly/igivearod2025

Between the Bove/Sassoon/Adams contretemps and Attorney General Bondi’s preposterous letters to Apple and Google, Thursday was about as bad a day for the Department of Justice’s credibility as we’ve seen in generations.

124. The Thursday Night Massacre(s)
Two very different episodes on Thursday provide growing evidence of a Department of Justice that is showing less respect, by the day, for the rule of law.
