I mean this is all well and good, but if Labour really wants to sort out universities and stop these closures, you need to be funding them properly. Not really sure where you expect the universities to find magical money from to solve these problems. And it's just going to get worse.

Last week I honestly was wistfully wondering where the family copy of World Book Encyclopedia 1990 went. I read that cover to cover (no surprises there).

We've known point fixes for machine learned systems aren't a scalable solution for multiple decades now!

It feels like LLMs gave the entire industry willful collective amnesia.

Yeah, really shows that my skepticism around initial-prompt-based guardrails being effective is spot on. Needs shutting down. You can't whackamole something this unreliable and uncontrollably harmful.

This is brilliant. LLMs are so WEIRD. Just underscores that "program them real, real good and we'll hold their curators accountable" is not a real strategy for trustworthy AI. Their curators can't hope to understand how they're going to behave under the weird stimuli humans throw at them.

Uhhhhhhhhh I have absolutely no idea what I would pick for my kids here (UK born, but of mixed, naturalised-immigrant parentage)

Absolutely agree. So incredibly shameful. It makes me extremely sad.

Just a horrific abandonment of the people who have supported them for generations. I regret ever having voted for them.

They could be holding the moral line and reminding the country about why refugees and immigrants are important to us. They could be exposing the lies of the far right. They could be solving real problems caused by decades of austerity, not immigrants (of any kind). But no, they've chosen this.
