Health policy expert trying to make the US healthcare system(s) ever so slightly less infuriating. Also posting about baseball, because baseball is the best.
I remember something about tarring and feathering tax collectors and throwing boxes of tea into a harbor and seizing a burning a boat after shooting the captain.

Our country was founded by revolt against arbitrary authority.
Attorney General Pam Bondi: "Our country was founded on law enforcement"
Bondi: "It's extremely organized. The signs they have are all matching, they're well written. And look at what's happening today. How did these people go out & get gas masks? These protesters. Would you know how to walk out on the street and buy a gas mask? Think about that. We're not gonna have it"

Bill Fucking Kristol, the voice of reason. The 21st century has been a damn ride.
Also, may I say that I don’t agree with people saying ICE and CBP need “more training.” They’re doing exactly what this administration has trained them to—impose a reign of fear in blue cities. They don’t need more training. They need to be ripped up root and branch.

Even if this were the law (it’s not), and even if it didn’t directly contradict decades of right wing policy and talking points (it does), the penalty for that is not execution!
Kash Patel: "You cannot bring a firearm, loaded, with multiple magazines to any sort of protest that you want. It's that simple. You don't have a right to break the law." (Pretti was carrying a gun legally.)

ICE and CBP must be abolished. Anything short of that is unacceptable.

So apparently launching a unilateral war of conquest with the explicit goal of capturing another countries oil reserves doesn’t cross a red line for Schumer.

What exactly is “that far”?
Asked about the possibility of impeachment, Schumer says "we hope that we can have support from our Republican colleagues to put a brake on this long before it gets that far"

The theory here being what? That the US can land military units anywhere in the world at any time and if they meet any opposition the use of “overwhelming force” is justified?

I am losing my mind.
Caine, in what happened when the military invaded Maduro’s compound: “On arrival into the target area, the helicopters came under fire, and they replied to that fire with overwhelming force in self-defense.”

We’re going to be reading that sentence for years.

There is a ton of great, rigorous research showing that this doesn’t work. People do not shop for health insurance like a normal good. In fact greater price transparency may lead some providers to realize they are undercharging and raise their prices.
Roger Marshall: "We want patients to become consumers again. We want patients to see what the actual prices are. We believe that if we would add the price tags to this bill, that it would save the country a trillion dollars a year."

I haven’t lost a kid but I’ve lost friends, and I’ve witnessed my fair share of deaths from drugs first hand as a medic - murdering people is still wrong.

Even if these boats are smuggling drugs (big if!) the penalty for that is not summary execution.
Batya might be just fine with a dudetrustme basis for a terrorist designation, but Americans with a functioning moral compass actually expect a plausible public rationale for who is to be treated as a terrorist in our name.

What do you mean there are no medicals?

There are few people on the national political landscape that I give the benefit of the doubt to but KBJ is definitely one of them. She’s leagues smarter than I am and at the top of a complicated field. If she’s doing something weird I’m going to assume there is a good reason until shown otherwise.
...compared to the alternative, it sure looks like Justice Jackson's intervention on Friday accomplished as much as it possibly could have given the limitations she faced. Lots of folks were surprised she didn't just force the majority's hand Friday night; I think her moves make even more sense now.

So it seems unlikely the premium tax credits will get extended in any form but the Senate is apparently currently debating changes to the tax credits as a compromise to get some support to people. This isn’t as easy as they’re making it sound.
November 12, 2025 at 1:01 AM
These hurdles are only resolvable in a legislative sense. The reality is states do not have the time to implement changes to the structure of the tax credits.
There are many hurdles to a deal on extending the enhanced ACA funds. Some are resolvable, like adjusting the income caps and eligibility rules; Democrats are open to negotiating that. But abortion is much more problematic. SBA is pushing Rs to make it a red line. www.nbcnews.com/politics/con...
Republicans demand tougher abortion restrictions to extend Obamacare funds
Democrats say that’s a nonstarter, arguing there are already limits on abortion access. The dispute could torpedo a deal, leading to higher health insurance premiums for millions.

It is not good that Trump is taking an interest in healthcare policy. He doesn’t have anywhere near the capacity to tackle any level of healthcare reform and the only policies that exist on the right involve Medicare privatization and waivers.

This is obviously a case of “don’t read too much into the ramblings of a crazy person” but in this scenario who are the people purchasing their own, much better, healthcare from?
“In other words, take from the BIG, BAD Insurance Companies, give it to the people, and terminate, per Dollar spent, the worst Healthcare anywhere in the World, ObamaCare.”

There are a lot of problems here but $4500 per year ($350 a month, $86 a week, $12 a day) is not a lot for groceries.
Rep. Clay Higgins of Louisiana blames SNAP recipients for not stockpiling a month's worth of food.

He ends his tweet with "stop smoking crack."

Great book! Absolutely would not recommend reading it with Trump in the White House.
hmm really not a good time psychologically to be reading “nuclear war: a scenario”

Don’t get this stuff. I was raised to despise the confederacy and everything they stood for as traitorous racists. Can’t imagine celebrating anything at a plantation.
If it would be tone deaf and inappropriate to get married at Auschwitz or a 9/11 memorial, why is it acceptable to get married at a plantation? And more so, WHY would you want to?

Post a perfect album from the 90’s that isn’t Nirvana, Pearl Jam,Soundgarden or Alice In Chains.

Yeah Roberts needs to rethink that maneuver.
winning vs. losing this game is like a 40 percent ring odds swing, you simply cannot use a position player ever, I’m sorry

Starting to think a Greek mythology punishment might be in play here. The game is doomed to continue until the Blue Jays are brave enough to pitch to Ohtani.

I’m saved by the fact that I’m pretty sure my boss is also frying his brain watching this game.

The sentence “The Blue Jays haven’t had a player in scoring position since the 11th” is hilarious.
