On the Duckbill Office Hours (duckbillgroup.com/officehours) and called the new Amazon Quick Suite thing "QuickSlap."

It's the new Infinidash.

The room was packed, but it was also made to seat 8, so let's not oversell it. 🤣

I think I'm going to record a couple YT videos of the AWS and networking lessons I shared, just for posterity.
Excited for Levi McCormick’s session “AWS Networking At Scale!” This room is PACKED!

AWS is really leaning into the ECS everywhere strategy. Now ECR runs in your on-prem bathrooms.

This is how we hike when the temperature hurts our face. We found a (not so) secret path around Bunker Lake.

"I can do DevOps, but I shouldn't have to. It makes a more efficient team to have a dedicated DevOps engineer and not burden your feature engineers with that additional effort."

It really doesn't, y'know. They become a bottleneck and your important "feature work" ends up sitting in a queue.

Last day of vacation.
Did I do the things I set out to do? No.
Do I feel rested? Somehow also no.

God damn you, @hankgreen.bsky.social. You brilliant bastard. I wasn't ready for it to end!

You know Bluesky has reached critical mass when you see the screenshots appear on other social apps.

We need new Christmas music. Retail has destroyed my ability to enjoy any of it.

On Sunday, we play games. Today was Clank! Catacombs. High amount of variability, but it's a fun time. Highly recommended deck builder.

I got an advent calendar game for the holiday season. Gotta find Santa before Christmas. Day 1 was a fun little puzzle. Excited for the rest.

Is this why some people prefer to work in an office? They can still "overhear" conversations while not being glued to a chat application all day.

I'm starting to only check my chat apps at the top of the hour, and it frees up a lot of bandwidth. Gotta make sure docs are up to date, though. 🤣
About a year ago I stopped using Slack / Discord on a daily basis

It’s surprising how much “headspace” I’ve gotten back

While this is not an option at most workplaces: made me wonder if invasive chat applications are perhaps not always necessarily a net positive?

I finally got my #EclipsePhase t-shirt! ADHD means giving yourself random surprises constantly. @bastlynn.bsky.social we did it!

Having to remind sellers to not use Uline is a mark of time passing for me. This company has always supported right wing shit, never stop reminding people not to use them. There’s always new sellers who haven’t heard. Sharing how you make and sell is how we keep doing
refuseuline.com is a great resource for replacing uline!

The ideal plarform engineering team is roughly 2/3rds software oriented people with an understanding of operations, and 1/3rd operations people who can program

Aka service tops and power bottoms

Nearly every company of significant AWS spend has a minimum commitment, so removing the instances won't directly impact revenue as much as you'd hope. They'll still get the bill at the end of the month.
Don't Cancel The Washington Post. Nuke All Your Company's Instances And Then Search Github For AWS Creds And Nuke All Those Instances Too.
So I understand the theory here (hit Bezos in his checkbook), but:
A) Cancelling WaPo is a much more direct signal
B) Like you’re going to get enough people to boycott Prime to matter
C) The real money now is from AWS, not Amazon dot com

Been working on a project for years now, and it's almost done. I'm super proud of using a Parallel branch in an AWS Step Function as a generic wrapper to catch all the failures in the states, and dump out into a cleanup function.
Shout out to @brysontyrrell.com for the idea.
