Genre screenwriter. I love cinematic gore but real blood makes me woozy. First name rhymes with “scare ‘em.” (he/him)
Yes! It reminds me a bit of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which shouldn’t feel cozy at all but totally does to me

For sure. And the whole movie has this perfect atmosphere. Love it!

Such a cool thing to do!

It’s done so elegantly that you never once think about how the plot is being strung along. You just feel for Aragorn and get excited when you find out he isn’t dead. It’s great invisible writing. Of which there is a lot in these movies! Ok, back to my LOTR marathon… End of 🧵

Again, Aragorn arriving at Helm’s Deep when his friends thought he was dead is a big emotional moment, but it also works as the perfect way for them to receive word that huge army is coming to kill them, something they couldn’t have known otherwise.

On the ride to Helm’s Deep, Aragorn sees the Uruk-hai army marching, also on their way to Helm’s Deep. When Aragorn rejoins the others, he’s able to pass along this information so they can prepare for battle.

During the battle with the wargs, Aragorn goes over the cliff and is presumed dead. But his trusty horse rescues him and takes him to Helm’s Deep to meet up with everyone. This is a big emotional story beat, but it also sets up an important plot point.

It’s not super recent, but I love This Warm December by Jack Johnson and crew. There are three volumes too! Perfect for a sunny, mellow Christmas.

One more lesson from these beautiful, perfect movies. I’m sure it’s been noted before, but I never looked at it quite this way myself. In Tolkien’s time, it was probably more a WWI vs. WWII dichotomy. Feels just as relevant for our current situation. End of 🧵

Frodo ends up fighting more of a psychological/emotional battle than Bilbo’s more literal one. But what he always does is keep going. He just keeps taking on the challenge and pushing forward.

Frodo tells Bilbo he always dreamed of going on adventures, but his own adventure turned out to be much different. It’s easier to imagine fighting evil in the past. Harder to face it in the present.

Great list! Rear Window 100%

Gotta add Raiders of the Lost Ark to my list. Plus several others that I’m forgetting at the moment.
