got a weather alert that it’ll be “not as cold” & “noticeably warmer” tomorrow at a high of 37°, & 1st inclination is to disdainfully say “thanks for nothing,” but realizing later that, in actuality, I’ll be sweating so much because today was a high of 19°, & 37° is actually so warm in comparison 😭😩

Last thing I will say on this re; how segregated TikTok is. Black booktokers have given me some really great recs, including Natasha Bishop who got picked up by trad and I was able give a blurb on the new edition. They are working hard for black authors, but the algorithm doesn’t care.

AND ONE MORE THING! TikTok has made the front list market push worse. Content creators are so focused on new releases there’s no space for backlists which also equal sales for everyone. You can make content about older books, but almost no one does. It’s Arcs and newest releases only.

I’ve seen some conversations about TikTok and what’ll happen in publishing if the ban actually happens. I’m just some lady, but I think booktok peaked months ago. Publishing is 12-36 months behind your FYP. And while there was a boom it created a specific quality problem.
