It's just wild that it was Republicans and their right-wing conspiracy theorist allies who kept the Epstein story alive when everyone else had pretty much forgotten about it.

It's a curious one. Is it normal for a stay denial by a single justice to be referred to the court before the denial goes out the door? (I can't remember any similar examples one way or the other)
Indeed, the text of the order doesn’t include the usual “and by her referred to the Court.” So Jackson clearly got overruled here.

NEW: Supreme Court extends temporary block on judge's ruling that would require full funding of SNAP payments, with deal to end shutdown (which would fully fund SNAP) on the horizon:

Supreme Court extends temporary pause on $4 billion in SNAP payments for November
A deal in Congress to end the government shutdown includes full SNAP funding through September and could mean the Supreme Court does not have to issue a ruling later.

So, SCOTUS has done nothing yet to extend the temporary stay that expires tonight ...If the court doesn't act, the government would be required to start funding SNAP in full before the shutdown ends.
Senate shutdown deal likely means the Supreme Court won't have to rule in the SNAP case, although they might have to extend the administrative stay ahead of a House vote. Once legislation is passed, SNAP would be fully funded.

Terminal decline, you say?

I'm here all week, etc.
I’m sorry but this whole Noah Smith Heathrow situation is so fucking funny. Centrist thought leader with PhD from University of Michigan struggles to navigate basic airport transfer, blames it on the relative economic decline of Western Europe

Trump's latest tariffs missive reminds me of something the Chief Justice said during the oral argument indicating he understands that the tariffs are a tool to making deals and not just a way to raise revenue:

One recurring theme with our current overlords is that their cultural reference points are so limited.
The far right is obsessed with Lord of the Rings and Musk keeps posting about "hobbits" because modern scientific racism owes more to fantasy worlds and gaming systems than genetic science, and they see both as effective mediums for right-wing propaganda www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2025/1...

Who cares? Bond is a cartoon character.

No one gets all upset when Wile E. Coyote shows up a minute after being run over by a train.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

UPDATE: The Senate votes 53-47 to shoot down the Baldwin amendment to extend ACA funds for 1 year. A party-line vote with every Republican rejecting it.
An important vote in this series: Tammy Baldwin’s proposal to extend ACA expiring funds for 1 year. It’s structured as a motion to table (i.e. scrap it from the amendment tree). But it’ll show the appetite (or lack thereof) in the Senate to address this issue.
