I’ve been closed to queries longer than I intended to be. I just thought I’d give a little explanation, because I know it may not make sense at first glance - how can an agent actively building a list stay closed to queries?

I’m excited to hear pitches at the Seattle Writing Workshop tomorrow!

To anyone else hoping to send a query my way, I plan to open next Monday for a very brief window. Looking forward to reading some great stuff!
The 2025 Online Seattle Writing Workshop is an online “How to Get Published” writing event on November 7-8, 2025. Writers are welcome to attend virtually from everywhere and anywhere and we have an incredible faculty! More info & how to sign up via link in our bio.

My amazing client Tiffany Graham Charkosky has a piece in Oprah Daily today. As always, Tiffany writes with honesty and vulnerability, and I am so grateful to her for sharing her story with the world! www.oprahdaily.com/life/health/...

I’m going to be closed to queries for a little while longer. I’m still considering material from the Chesapeake Writing Workshop and other requests, and the Women’s Fiction Writers Association pitch event starts today. I do hope to open again later this month. #writingcommunity #writelife

I make plans to post more and then another school shooting and the fascism and wars and denial continue to spiral… anyway, for anyone interested, some agenting updates ahead.

Grateful for Heather Cox Richardson’s explanation of the history of Labor Day today. Like those workers marching so many years ago said, The True Remedy Is Organization and the Ballot.

Haven’t been on social media much this summer, but I’m going to try to check in more this fall.

It’s hard to keep plugging away at work when the world is burning, but #books matter. Books change the world. Had a lovely conversation about that with some other industry folks about that last night.

I’m temporarily closed to queries as of 3/17 to prepare for some conferences coming up next month. I hope to reopen in late April or early May!

I’ve been struggling with social media, to be honest. My country is spiraling. I’m outraged daily. Calling my representatives feels fruitless. Posting about daily life feels wrong, or insensitive at best, but I work in an industry that uses social media - where are the boundaries? Who knows?

Hi to everyone who connected with me yesterday for #mswl day!

Thank you to anyone who sends a query my way. I know querying is hard, and I wish I had the time to respond personally. I see amazing pitches and pages every day that just aren’t right for me. I wish you all success on your journey!

For #MSWL day, I'm adding a few specifics to my usual wish list. Right now I'm really looking for something to sweep me away and make me forget about what's going on in the world for a few hours. Something hopeful, nuanced, and immersive, with strong female characters in book club or romance.

It feels strange to post about work with everything going on in the world - but here we are. I’m teaching a class on voice online at the Texas Writing Workshop on March 8. For more info visit texaswritingworkshop.com

I have this idea that many times, one line encapsulates a whole book. Just read this one and wonder if it’s the one in All the Colors of the Dark:

“The bad are the few, but often they shout louder than the many. Don’t mistake silence for weakness.”

Seems pretty fitting this week.

I am open to queries again! I'm looking for psychological and domestic suspense, upmarket book club fiction, romance, and YA in fiction and big idea, pop culture, pop science, women's issues, and memoir in nonfiction. My full wish list and QM form are available at cmalit.com.
