Si quelqu’un fait un salut nazi au conseil municipal, cela fait-il réagir ?

The Dems need the support of the left so that if they lose they can blame them for not voting hard enough. But they can’t fully chase them away because then they would definitely lose every time

This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source.

Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs.

They're dismantling the agency that can, if it did robust enforcement, fill the deficit. For every $1 it spends on enforcement it generates $5-$9 in revenue. We lose ~1 trillion dollars each year to tax fraud, mostly from the rich. Musk paid no income tax in 2021 www.propublica.org/article/the-...

There’s a certain type of person—think WSJ Editorial Board, think Nate Silver, think “reasonable” centrists—who sees the growing authoritarianism of the right but convinces themselves the best path is to accommodate it. 🧵

When Musk denies that he did a big ol Nazi salute during the inauguration, remember this, from Jean-Paul Sartre, 1944.

The real long-and-short is that Thiel is very taken by a few faux-philosophers who believe that representative democracy is an inherently corrosive concept which restraints real technological growth and ought to be replaced by a quasi-monarchy why treats "Founders" (tech bros) as kings.

Rufo invents a problem. It goes viral for and against. There are opeds. Reported features. And at the end whether or not policy changes, a thing that wasn’t controversial becomes controversial. Division is the goal. Destabilizing anything helpful to marginalized people is the goal.

Longish answer - Users blocking content for themselves is a useful tool for some kinds of problems (e.g. you don't want to see nude pictures) but doesn't do much at all for others (e.g. you don't want other people to see nude picture of you). 🧵 1/6

Folks are mostly missing the forest for the trees re: the recent Meta announcement. Specifically, the focus on the move from fact checking to community notes. There two different changes that are a much bigger deal that have received less focus. 🧵 1/11

In 2025, will Canada’s media start properly reporting on what the party leader polling at over 40% is actually saying instead of simply reassuring Canadians he’s not Donald Trump?

They love hounding Justin Trudeau, but the extremist waiting to replace him is getting off easy.
Pierre Poilievre says Canadians are too obsessed with race because of “wokeism” and agrees with Jordan Peterson that Canada essentially had to invent and import racism because it didn’t exist here before recent decades.

Canada is so fucked if this guy forms government.

we should be concerned about the impacts of social media on kids and teens, but i don’t think we’re worried nearly enough about what it’s doing to middle aged people and seniors
