As maddening as it was to be a medievalist teaching a course on modern business history, that too was a valuable lesson - read widely, be open to new and challenging experiences, and you'll never know how those seemingly random things might shape you in the future

One of the best lessons I learned in grad school came from being moved to TA for East Asian Business History at the last minute. The professor, Brett Sheehan, was amazing, and he taught me one basic lesson: What's good for big businesses is generally terrible for economies as a whole.
