Freezer is acting up so I’m clearing it out. Carefully considered my options on what to do with three chicken breasts and decided to fry them a bit and toss them in a pot of greens (also rescued from the freezer).

I’d have grabbed a ham hock had I known, but they’re still slap your mama good.

French authorities this week opened an investigation into Shein and three other online marketplaces — Temu, Wish and AliExpress - after finding listings for sex dolls resembling children on each site. The dolls were being sold by third-party sellers rather than the retailers themselves. After the government's announcement yesterday, Shein said it had temporarily suspended all marketplace sales in France while it conducted a comprehensive review "to ensure full adherenceto French law and the highest standards of consumer protection". The scandal over the sex dolls overshadowed the opening of Shein's first permanent shop in Paris, in the BHV department store. Protesters held signs that read "Protect children. Not Shein" and "Shame on Shein". Before the scandal erupted, Shein was planning to open concessions in several Galeries Lafayette stores outside Paris. It is unclear whether those plans will change. The sex doll furore adds to a long list of controversies involving Shein. The fast-fashion retailer has been accused of copying the work of independent designers and big brands.

To be clear: Louis C.K. is something of an easy target. His well-documented history of sexual harassment, which he has admitted to, has not stopped him from continuing his comedy career (his 2025 tour saw him headline San Antonio's Majestic Theatre, as well as a four-night stand at Austin's ACL Live), although it has put him on the list of people we'd prefer not to be stuck on an elevator with. He's also not a Texan and does not appear to have spent any appreciable amount of time here; earlier this month on Bill Maher's talk show, in one of the few interviews he's given since his past proclivities were revealed, he confessed he hadn't done any research for the book.
