I’d like to share a small publishing milestone.

My book ‘Drystone - A Life Rebuilt’ has gone into a second print run.

And as there are so many wildly unrealistic ideas out there about how it all works, here are the numbers in plain terms

I have successfully facilitated my first from scratch gf df gingerbread house. And my youngest daughter has successfully designed and built her first from scratch gf df gingerbread house.

Hands were shaking, reinforcements called in, maybe some snippy tones of voice.

BUT WE DID IT!

I want to pick up another part of the ‘nature cure’ problem

When a woman writes about the outdoors, people often reach for the same narrative template.

Recently at a Q&A, the chair asked me an excellent question: Why do you push so hard against the idea of a ‘nature cure’ when moments in your book Drystone - A Life Rebuilt might look like exactly that?

The answer is simple.

High Renaissance vibes.

(My ex-husband saw this on his way to work today and I am so jealous)

Had a fantastic time at University of Glasgow yesterday talking to @kovesi.bsky.social about my book 'Drystone - A Life Rebuilt'. Thanks to all who attended in person and online. This was my last event of the year but I have quite a few coming up in 2026 and I'm really looking forward to every one

An honour to be part of any Books of the Year list, but being chosen by a bookseller hits differently. Thank you to Nairn Bookshop for supporting 'Drystone' so generously.

They’ve also chosen 2 other excellent Scottish books, worth a look if you’re choosing gifts or planning your winter reading.

Of course.

Some are easier to mitigate than others. In a bad virus season or during a Covid wave, it is smart policy to promote mask wearing within medical facilities, busy public spaces, stay at home when ill etc. And maybe we shouldn't be telling kids to go to school with Glandular Fever etc?

Next week I'll be seven years sober.

Had a brilliant time with the wonderful Kat Hill at our Aye Write event last night. Thanks to Helen Cross for being an excellent chair.

Hugely looking forward to Creative Conversation at UofGlasgow on December 1st which will be my final event of the year.

Congrats to Tamara Fulcher on winning the Anne Brown Essay prize 2025! Very much looking forward to reading her essay.

Here are a couple of photos of Wigtown in the sun and a photo of me that I forced my ex-husband (and best pal) to take. The 'SV' stands for Svea Vikander of course.

Scrubbed-up Kristie - a rare sighting. Iron at the Air BnB wasn't working properly so hopefully the (considerable) heat from my tits will get the creases out of the shirt before we arrive at Anne Brown Essay Prize ceremony ;)

I will never get over the generosity of women. In my life. In books. And I loved this one.

My mental health has been trash. I got my hair cut really short (wee undercut at back). Hopefully the two are unrelated.

If your book club is #Reading my book 'Drystone – A Life Rebuilt', I’d be glad to join you online for an hour’s Q&A. No fee, just a chance to talk about the book and your questions.

If this is something that would work for your club, drop me a message/email.

I will never get over the fact that I have written a book that people think is really good. It will never get old and I will never stop thinking this is the coolest thing in the world.

Thank you, thank you!

Lots of you have been asking how to order my book Drystone - A Life rebuilt outside of the UK.

As we approach the official launch date (tomorrow!) I'm hearing it's already pretty widely available internationally. Now's the time!

If/when you read my book, will you leave me a review?

I don't expect you to kiss my arse, just be honest and write a few words.

Amazon reviews are influential (I don't make the rules!) and you just need an account, not to have bought it from there. But a review anywhere would be so appreciated.

A friend spotted my book Drystone – A Life Rebuilt in Topping & Company, St Andrews.

If you see a copy in the wild or if you’ve picked one up, I’d love to see a photo. It still feels surreal and living a hermit life means I miss a lot of the ‘real’ moments
