The #WIPSnips word for January 18th is "remain"

#WordWeavers Jan 18: Your antagonist gets a call or message from their mother. How do they respond?

Utter terror about what it could mean. Norma never calls, that's Jerk's job.

#WritersCoffeeClub Jan 18: Are you comfortable making your readers uncomfortable? How far will you go?

Emotionally, very uncomfortable. Violence is present, but the real damage is psychological when I write.

#WritersCoffeeClub Jan 17. "What’s frustrating you, writing-wise?"

Getting feedback from beta readers. I should have specified "And give me feedback besides 'It's really good!'"

#WordWeavers 17 - If cost wasn’t an issue, what would your ideal setting be for you to write in?

The living room in one of the homes near downtown in my home town. Somewhere close enough to visit all the inspirations of the locations I use in my work, instead of relying on ~20 year old memories.

#WordWeavers Jan 16: If your MC had one photograph near where they sleep, what or who would it be?

Jerk's never had one, but it would probably be of Kid if they were separated geographically.

#WordWeavers 14 Most exciting thing to ever happen to MC from their POV.

Jerk: "I don't want to talk about the accident right now."

#WritersCoffeeClub Jan 15. How human are your protagonists? What about your antagonists?

100% Human DNA, or as close as anyone else.
January 15, 2026 at 10:45 AM
#WordWeavers 14 If your MC lived your antagonist’s life, what would they be like?

Honestly, Jerk would be absolutely terrifying in McNally's shoes.

He doesn't want to be terrifying.

What’s a service or skill you’d like to offer your fellow writers?

One of these days I'm going to formalize and streamline the workflow I use to compile drafts in epub/html/pdf/markdown and open source it.

#WordWeavers 13. Where was your latest writing session? How did it go?

At my desk between midnight and 4 a.m., which moved to a new location after rearrangement yesterday. 1200 words across two scenes as I wrestle with Book II.

#WritersCoffeeClub 13 Jan: Are you actively building your working vocabulary? How?

Yes, but not actively. I'm hyperlexic and use words I think are perfectly reasonable that many folk find opaque already.

I'm looking for books with transmasculine protagonists that might help me understand myself. I recently read Rules for Ghosting and found it relatable on so many levels. What's your top rec? I especially like romance, mystery, and sff. No sad endings please! 🌈📚💙

Special love to those who boost!

#WritersCoffeeClub 10th Jan 2026. How do you steer a reader’s emotional journey?

I'm an iceberg writer. I build the emotional peaks with subtext and dialogue, then let the reader steer themselves into them, careful to make sure some of the icebergs are heartwarming or funny.

#WritersCoffeeClub 9th Jan 2026. What's your top tip for writing authentic dialogue?

I talk to myself, a lot. Written dialogue will never have the cadence and rhythm of actual conversation, but saying the parts out loud (and gesturing) helps it from feeling unnaturally stilted when it's put down.

"I have heard that the thoughts you think most often, and strongest, are etched on the inside of your skull," the necromancer's assistant said. "Is that true?"

"It is," the necromancer said. "Though I rarely try to read them."

"Will you read mine, when I'm dead?"

"Do you want me to?"

"Yes."
