Teaching continues to be really hard — for almost everyone I know. I'm exhausted & bored with the repetition of my own daily, "Should I stay or should I go?" anxieties. My early Monday morning epiphany: I can't answer this question well without abandoning the old, "teaching as a vocation" nonsense.
I taught high school from 2000-2020.
In 2023, I am back at it.
So far, this is the hardest (by a lot) year of my career. I am not regretting getting back in the classroom, but I am definitely feeling with every fiber of my heart and being that this job is (structurally) impossible.

It's parent-teacher conference season here!
As I tell people, the best time to have reached out to families and communities was the first month of the year. The second best time is now. As a teacher, I found that parent-teacher conferences were more efficient as a follow-up, not as an introduction.
