Dear libraries. This topic name will not help me find a non fiction book right now.
One of the laws now postponed required ballot titles from citizen groups to be written at the 8th grade reading level. The requirement didn’t apply to constitutional amendment ballot titles from the legislature.
A big deal for the Arkansas citizen initiative process. Arkansas is the only southern state with a robust form of citizen initiatives - referendums, state laws and constitutional amendments.
Via @arkansasadvocate.com: A federal judge on Wednesday issued a preliminary injunction that blocks the enforcement of several direct democracy-related laws against Arkansas groups collecting signatures to qualify proposed ballot measures for the 2026 ballot. #arpx #arleg

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

I miss old school doctor’s offices. With paper. And checking in by saying “I’m here” to a human. Versus signing in on my phone. All the talk of an epidemic of loneliness is reinforced by daily interactions like this, where you’re a number. I think working in a place like this would be depressing.

I transcribed a diary of an Alexandria woman who had nothing positive to say about the Rev War generation of men. The context was how they’d denied her the education she wanted. Her words are harsh. I wonder how many other women felt the same, but we only ever hear Abigail’s voice.

“Things happen” is the president justifying a murderer’s butchering of a journalist.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

I hired and worked with Jamal for a year.

Just the president of the United States rationalizing that a Washington Post reporter was basically asking to be murdered and cut to pieces with a bone saw because of his reporting.

As he sits next to the thug who ordered it.

In my latest for @arkansasadvocate.com, I did a deep dive on the delays and shifting timelines for fixing the Cummins-Varner Wastewater Treatment Plant, which treats the waste from Arkansas’ largest prisons. It’s a continuation of reporting I did at the ADG last year. Give it a read #arpx
