Manawatu inhabitant- Taranaki born. Family historian. Enjoyer of the outdoors but perfunctory gardener. Retired teacher. Volunteer. Ancienne pèlerine. Badge of honour: "She's a difficult socialist I guess."
Got out early for a ride along the Manawatu River path. Calm and sunny to start with and got quite breezy at my halfway point. Glad I could assist myself with the e-bike settings on my return journey.

How do I complain to Google? I’m so tired of seeing fake news on the Google search page about Super increases. We get one in April only. These things are scams that trick some elderly people.

Not only does Google give incorrect answers with Al but on my phone their search page keeps serving up
Bogus articles. Had to assure an elderly lady I volunteer with that the next increase would only come in April.

I've searched for my maternal grandparents' wedding before without success. Today I went via Luke Howison's site and it led me straight to it. Payne instead of Payn which might have been one of my issues before. And not in West Coast paper.
December 2, 2025 at 3:21 AM
Now I have found a fulsome account of my Payn great-grandfather's death and funeral. Partly this is because my search terms are a little different- but also probably because there are more West Coast papers on Papers Past than there used to be.

I went to a Papers Past workshop today, and predictably I have gone down a rabbit-hole this evening, using the town and the surname (without any first names.) Found all sorts of new bits and pieces.

Just looked up where they are holding the 2027 congress- Bunny St- I could catch the train in very easily- either tent in Paekakariki or there is a cheaper place to stay in Plimmerton. Accommodation cost is not going to be an issue... @mghistorical.com @cathyclarke77.bsky.social

Apparently this self-sown plant has a nasty side and I need to get rid of it. A shame. It looks nice!

My friends sold their gite and headed back to Ireland, but this is the side of it closest to the Railway station. It looks fancier on the 'back' door side on the other street.

Looking through some of my Ticino line- here is Giuseppe having his 90th birthday on the West Coast in NZ.

Destin du Voyageur. Love the sculpture but not so sure about having it right outside my hotel room!

The hydrangea plants are sprouting forth some flowers. Seems early but I am glad to see them.

These are the two pieces I found in Papers Past by searching on Kumara and maintenance- the surname wasn't any help.

A little bit of calm in the storm. Ducklings in the Square, Palmy.

I love my Palmy library so much. The other day I found a pile of photos/negatives from a 1992 Reunion that other cousins are interested in seeing. At the library today I was shown how to scan the negatives. So happy with the quality of the images. This is a leftover pipe from sluicing for gold.
