I would say Wake Up Dead Man is definitely in my top three Knives Out films. Very good.

Late night reading. I picked this up today after realising I had given away my copy a while ago. It was actually my mum’s copy - sorry Mum. Love this cover artwork by David Hardy. There’s something very Christmassy about Wells to me, probably because the late Victorians are so nostalgic.

Finished the fourth and final part this morning. It’s really nice returning to Dr. Who after a long break. Just to prove my credentials (although why would you need credentials to enjoy something) here’s a photo from a few years ago in Blackpool.

One of the best parts in a story with lots of best parts. The chalk outline of the assassinated Time Lord President. Hilarious stuff.

I have come across another note on the bus. This one less intriguing but wanted to share. Keep on smiling.

It’s a good one this morning. Taking it in.

Happy birthday Doctor Who. The Mask of the Mandragora tonight. Tom Baker and Elisabeth Sladen at their best. Fair play to the Doctor for walking around San Martino in his scarf - must’ve been roasting. These Blu-ray sets are on sale pretty much everywhere at the moment - worth picking up imo.

One of the best ghost stories I’ve read in a long time, with such an intriguing narrator. Reminded me of my last trip to a friend who works in admin at Nottingham University. Not a bad story in this anthology. Also find it interesting that multiple stories have focused on Covid restrictions.

Sucker for books about fictional bands. This is more about what it meant to be in a band, looking back thirty years. I liked how Pete Moran moved through the book like a ghost. His presence was felt whenever he was ‘on page’. Mark E Moon was standout. @northernmailman.bsky.social

Found on the pavement. ‘Owner of black audi…’ There’s something masterful about the crossing out of couldn’t for didn’t.

I’ve been staying up late to watch Doctor Who recently. Finished Ghost Light tonight, which I’d never seen before, and now I’ve started Part 1 of the below. Points for anyone who knows the story.

Beautiful scenes this morning on the Fylde imo. Southport glints in the distance.

Bobby Charlton banging on about the inexistence of time again.

I’ve had a good run of Sunday charity shopping recently. Garry Kilworth is someone I’ve wanted to read for a while now. The nights are drawing in - time for chilling tales.

Bought myself To Rise in the Dark by Nick J. Brown. His almost daily Vic & Bob pics on here bring me such a warm glow, I already feel endeared to his work. But this seems right up my street and if my delivery is on track, I will be reading this weekend. @northernmailman.bsky.social

Sounds absolutely exhausting.

Started the new Best British Short Stories late last night. Probably not a good idea to read ‘Torsos’ by Linden Hibbert right before bed. Deeply strange and pretty unnerving stuff. Great though.

I’m enjoying Rule, Nostalgia by Hannah Rose Woods. Particularly good on how Blitz rhetoric was used during lockdown. Brat is fun but almost too disjointed for me. Described on the blurb as an ‘Instant Cult Classic’ which feels like a contradiction in terms.

Contender for the most boring jigsaw ever?

Love this. I read The Building Inspector in one sitting. Unnerving, atmospheric. A great story in every flat, terrace, and former industrial estate. Favourites ‘The Ghost House’, ‘Lost’, and ‘Power Off’. Congratulations @dustynewrose.bsky.social
