What a shocker. Agriculture minister who’s also a livestock farmer thinks livestock farmers should be free to continue to pour shit into our waterways with impunity, all the while pocketing taxpayer subsidies. This is his “ambition”.

What a country we live in.

An illustrated line from the Prayer Of St. Brendan The Navigator, who is said to have travelled from County Kerry in Ireland to America a thousand years before Columbus made his journey. Trust in the darkness. 🌌

Trump and Netanyahu want to kill @unrwa.org , but most governments see it as essential to sustain the lives of Palestinian civilians under Israeli assault. The UN General Assembly votes overwhelming to renew UNRWA's mandate for three years, by a vote of 151 to 10.

Pay farmers NOT to have sheep, and many would jump at the chance to do the right thing.

But farming is their livelihood, so it won't happen otherwise.

*Society* has to do the right thing by nature, and give farmers the option of letting it come back, instead of killing it off.

Today is #InternationalDayOfPeopleWithDisabilities and we’re celebrating by sharing Ferris Wheel by Rosaleen Moore, a work depicting a familiar scene on Grand Parade at Christmas time. Rosaleen is a member of Crawford Supported Studios., a sustained creative environment that centres disabled people.

If you're old enough to remember a million people on the streets protesting Britain's rubber-stamping of Bush's illegal war, and Tony Blair's response - 'a million isn't that many, really' - you won't be surprised by anything happening in 2025.
As a now old man I recall my incredulity when the Serious People admitted that the Iraq war was based on a series of lies, but then went to “of course, there is no way we could have known at the time.”

Hundreds of thousands of people were in the street telling you so at the time. How did they know?

This is major.
Today 15 brave smallholder Kenyan farmers who appealed a Seed Act which criminalised them for saving, sharing&selling their own seeds won their case in the High Court.
Glad that my PhD findings were submitted in this case and assisted in the win. Here's a video of it!

We (the “developed” nations) need to either choose bikes, transit, and infill development — or cataclysmic change to habitability on the planet.

Change our lifestyle, or it will be changed for us.

Those are the only two choices.
Going after the last 5% of electricity supply CO2 reduction without reducing transportation emissions is lunacy.
I worry about mining for EV batteries, too.
But we can have a better quality of life if we substitute private cars for bikes, transit, infill development
Good figure from a recent ESIG report showing how marginal abatement costs in the electric sector start out low but increase sharply as you approach zero emissions.

The Irish State is dumping €450 million of wind energy a year, despite 29% of households suffering fuel poverty, because 'there's no market'.

If you're struggling to get your head around that, it's called capitalism.
