There is no such thing as a Smart Trump who will doom the republic, as his superpower is his stupidity. But there is probably an even more dangerous Smart Elon to come- someone with vast wealth and better public image management who will hollow out our republic for his/her benefit.

This is why everyone should just defer to constructivism. You don’t have to smash Melos, you’re just making that up in your head, and in fact not doing so establishes your bonafides in an ideological long game against Sparta.

Counterpoint: UK/FR should’ve invaded Belgium & Norway in 1939.
Melians: please do not do a Peloponnesian War to us!

Athenian general implausibly named "Da Baby Stabber": imma do it tho

There are so many things in Nixonland that echo today. This among them. 18-24yr olds used to be this hot for liberalism, but Obama's failure has made millennials realize the only Hope is for the "politics of the possible" to be much further left, and have passed this down to Zoomers and Alpha.
Those who agree with the principles of socialism:

18-24 Year Olds:
Agree: 57%
Disagree: 26%

25-44 Year Olds:
Agree: 52%
Disagree: 29%

45-64 Year Olds:
Disagree: 40%

65+ Year Olds:
Disagree: 56%

Anecdotally (but I guess reflected in broader research) I was just talking to two friends who both work in software, and they complained that recent hires are so dependent on ChatGPT that these hires' own problem-solving skills are almost non-existent.
We can't really say this enough...

> Anastasia Berg [at UCL Irvine] said that new research — and what she's hearing directly from colleagues across various industries — shows that employees who heavily rely on AI are losing core skills at a startling rate.

Happy 88th birthday to Ridley Scott

- not an auteur so he’s at the mercy of a script
- Alien, Blade Runner FC, Kingdom of Heaven DC are masterpieces but he’s only 20% of them
- Prometheus mystifies dullards
- Napoleon was a satire that nobody got
- Rook was his fault

I always thought it was interesting how Russell Means wanted to be in Last of the Mohicans because the script gave stronger depth to the Indian characters than other movies like Dances with Wolves. Both films were raked across the coals in time.

Trump must be the only President who doesn’t read. Jackson grew up like an illiterate barbarian, but he endeavored to read. Dubya was a dumbfuck, but he read stuff once in a while. Trump reads Vanity Fair, resentfully.

ChatGPT is valid TO CITE? What the fucking hell. This wasn't like if the teachers and professors in our day said it was valid to cite Wikipedia, which they most certainly did not. It'd be like if they said it was valid to cite some guy on IRC named ItalianStallion.
