Defiantly soft; telling queer stories; making queer media

Rep: Stephanie Winter at KO Media Management.
if you write just 1000 words a day, you too can take over a year writing the same book twice.

EIGHTY.

I'm two scenes away from the next act, which means I'm two scenes away from the ~midpoint~ which is one of the most dramatic scenes in the book. It's taking everything in me to stay on task.

Okay my original reading thread is in tatters now so here's a new one.

The library is ~enabling~

Gay Cinderella?! I need a break from horror.

In America, we love to hear about all of the ways other countries do things better.

It makes us feel really safe and happy in the world.
Did you know that in Canada, if a budget doesn’t pass the government doesn’t shut down?

Federal workers aren’t furloughed.

Funding for social services doesn’t dry up.

Failure to pass a budget triggers an election.

It puts the politicians jobs on the line.

They get the budget passed.

I fear I am writing a book that will be inevitably accused of being "slow"

But I *LIKE* a lot of books that are accused of being slow, so I'm gonna stop being in my head about it.

SEVENTY THOUSAND.

My unofficial goal this month is to breech 100k. I genuinely don't think it will happen 😅 but I'm giving it a good try.

I wish I could write things like "She quit the room," but unfortunately, I'm writing a 21st century America novel and not a Victorian affair so I have to keep to "she leaves" which is not as yummy.

✅ In bed
✅ Lights off
✅ Weather brisk
✅ My bible-like library copy of Shirley Jackson's omnibus is open to a novel I haven't read yet.

Perfect vibes 😌

who wants to write a dystopian romance about a gruff, unhinged punk and his accountabilibot boyfriend?
Optimus robots will just kinda follow criminals around and make sure they don't commit crimes again, so we can eliminate prisons.

These are all things Elon Musk is literally saying.

I *really* liked Hungerstone.

It's a beautiful descent into chaos story. I loved it.
HUNGERSTONE IT IS.

For no real reason other than that I want to compare the Carmilla retellings.

(This one is a much closer retelling so far, only Abt 30 pages in.)

I'm thinking about how many of these stories deal with the view of the Self verus the way the world views you, and the importance of agency in a world built on oppression and WHY so many Victorian Gothic MCs are Governesses-- one of the few educated yet independent paths for women and

AAAAAAA
Seeking the intersection of feminism and queer identity as explored through horror ✨💅

I think something that's really fun about reading classics outside of an academic setting is that I can follow a line of interest without adhering to any kind of set reading list.

I'm not creating course work for myself. I don't have an end goal. I'm just fucking ✨interested✨.
Project reading the things that inspired the things that inspired the thing I'm writing.

Also: I finally went to the library, please clap.

I started watching Marianne last night and now I don't want to do anything else but finish it 😅

I am GRIPPED--I love a protagonist who is actively falling apart. I love them MORE when they look like a lesbian. I love them EVEN MORE when they seem to be the cause of all of their own problems.

This November I want everyone to remember:

-it is not realistic to write every single day. There will be days you don't have time/have other priorities and commitments.

-writing 1667 words in a sitting is A LOT.

-Writing 50,000 in a month is not a sustainable practice.
