The use of motorway services in this image really underlines this is about excluding people from public life. When you stop at a motorway services, you're on your way somewhere else. It's the most banal space possible. Now we'll all have to check we conform to gender stereotypes in order to pee.

Brushing up on Italian for a forthcoming trip. It's a lot easier than Portuguese but I keep reverting to the latter as it was the last language I spoke abroad this summer.

Sample lecture slide.
And both higher education policy makers and managements deem History and other Humanities irrelevant to "real world research"...

A moment, please, to consider the absolute majesty of Daphne Oram's unbelievable score to this. A pitch shifted, time stretched, frequency agile glimpse of the future of music production; a liberty-taking all analogue remix of Sandy Nelson's Teen Beat realised in real time with the visuals.

Today the Student New Town Development Corporation are moving into the 1970s and 80s. Will they build a new Milton Keynes?

I really think that programmes of events like the @beinghumanfest.bsky.social last fortnight helped communicate what universities do to the general public.
I also have seen however that senior managements don't appreciate such initiatives and their value.
'Fewer than half are even fully aware that universities conduct research.'

Real indictment of universities' strategies and comms this. An own goal that could and should be rectified. Engaging broad publics with research is not rocket science. And if it were, universities have rocket scientists. 3/3
