Rob Reiner had one of the most wide-ranging audiences of any American filmmaker. People rewatch his films with nostalgia and joy. They quote them with parents and pass them down to children.

Ignore the other one's commentary. It's like a black hole commenting on the sun.

Will the last person who doesn’t believe the Trump administration is trying to crash the economy, break up the country, and sell the parts to whichever tech oligarch or foreign criminal pays the highest please turn out the lights.

(Or read some @sarahkendzior.bsky.social books.)

Spectacular(ly scary) article.

I discovered @sarahkendzior.bsky.social in 2015 & a decade later she's still my go-to on all-things autocracy.

"The Trump administration is a transnational crime syndicate masquerading as a government".

Follow her. You won't regret it, I promise
In 2005, I wrote an article called "Inventing Akromiya" about how the government of Uzbekistan made up a group called Akromiya to justify a massacre of civilian protesters.

Twenty years later, the US is more like Uzbekistan, and I wrote "Inventing Antifa": sarahkendzior.substack.com/p/inventing-...
Inventing Antifa
In 2005, the Uzbek government invented a group called “Akromiya” to justify massacring protesters. Now I worry the US government will do the same.

MAGA now celebrates cancel culture, promotes safe spaces for conservatives, believes free speech should be curtailed, and thinks words encourage violence.

Exact opposite of all their positions.

Its almost as if they're bad faith hypocrites who want power by any means necessary.

Why is no one pointing out that he also pleaded the Fifth Amendment hundreds of times in order to avoid incriminating himself before Congress over January 6?

Isn't that a pretty significant fact, given that January 6 was a violent armed rebellion intended to overthrow our democracy?

This is *exactly* how a fascist movement gets the ball rolling on concentration camps. And it’s happening in public, and it’s already reached out to the President of the United States for aid (and says it’s directly inspired by his words, values and exhortations). Really, really, really scary stuff.

I’ve condemned Kirk’s murder too often to count—and am told I’m on this list. So it isn’t a list of those who celebrated Kirk’s death, it’s a list of progressives who publicly engaged in some kind of wrongthink and now—for... reasons—need to be on a list only far-right political radicals can access.

It is here. McCarthyism 2.0. Wrongthink now gets you on a list that is openly trying to liaison with the government (which has already said it will be doing similar work in the weeks to come). The list referenced below now exceeds 100,000 people. People on the list are already getting death threats.

My fear is that this entire year is essentially a period of behind-the-scenes preparation for even larger maneuvers against citizens than we have already seen against legal residents, naturalized citizens and undocumented migrants.

And Herr Miller has all but admitted it.

2026 will be terrifying.

Trump and Miller have figured out that if they can move fast enough, in enough locations, in ways the courts have never seen before, they can quickly overwhelm the ability of our underfunded, under-resourced justice system to respond to obviously illegal government actions.

That's the simple truth.

The right (maga GOP) is not doing politics. They are engaged in domestic terrorism and psychological warfare. They use free speech and politics as a disguise to hide behind, pretending they are legitimate, which they are not. They are domestic terrorist criminals.

fascism maintains power by making everyone too scared to fight back but the truth is there's only a few of them and most of the stuff they're threatening is logistically impossibly at scale. they'll make examples and count on that to cow the rest. Not fighting back is the only way to lose though.
