I am regularly asked what specifically blue states and Congress should do to protect the midterm elections.

Here you go, I list and explain them one by one.

It’s not too late for states and Congress to stop Trump from subverting the midterms
With only nine months before the midterm elections, Trump is plotting to prevent Democrats from taking control of Congress.

Next time someone asks you about energy and land use, maybe remind them that the ~35 million acres that currently grow corn for ethanol in the US could produce ~15 PWh per year of electricity from solar photovoltaics. That's ~3.5 times more than *total annual generation from all US power plants*.

If Jeff Bezos could afford to spend $75 million on the Melania movie & $500 million for a yacht to sail off to his $55 million wedding to give his wife a $5 million ring, please don't tell me he needed to fire one-third of the Washington Post staff.

Democracy dies in oligarchy.

Never run a gas generator indoors, don’t use a gas oven or stove to try to heat your house, and make sure you have working, battery-backed up carbon monoxide detectors on every floor of your house (but especially the one where you sleep)!
Spoke with a friend who is an ER doc and he said last time there was an ice storm there were hundreds of cases of carbon monoxide poisoning... Be safe be smart folks

Terrifying that he felt the need to.

Larger point: 45Q is arguably the most perverse energy subsidy from a climate pespective. Govt paying corporations to capture and store CO2, instead of actually reducing emissions, means incentivizing more extraction and combustion of fossil fuels because more emissions means more public $.

Michiganders, both of our senators voted for the trans athlete ban this week. Please please please call them and tell them they have to vote against the ban on gender affirming care for minors that just passed the house. This bill will kill children.

One of my neighbors has been putting up these fish facts posters. All kinds of different fish, marine, freshwater, deep, shallow, all kinds. This is a good one. “Stg this real fish” took me out. Good work, neighbor.

This is huge! More libraries + media outlets should be thinking about partnerships serving their shared missing of providing civic information
I’m delighted the Library has been able to step in to ensure the longevity of this community resource, especially as reliable sources of news, especially at the local level, are dying off.
We are thrilled to announce that @aadl.org plans to acquire the Ann Arbor Observer!

Public ownership of local news media is more important than ever, and this acquisition builds on years of partnership and archival work to ensure the future of this priceless community asset.

My hometown’s public radio and TV station is going to close down because of the loss of federal funding, and because Penn State won’t shell out to make up the difference. It would be a couple million dollars a year. The football coach makes $8.5 million a year.
