It's been 30 or so years since I've read the Bible, but in every scene I can imagine, except the garden of Eden, all I can picture is a desert. In fact, whenever I picture anything in BC up to about 1100s, it's all desert all the time. I don't start picturing forests until like, Robin Hood.

Duke sucks
Here’s Duke behavioral economist Dan Ariely asking Jeffrey Epstein for “the name and email of the redhead that was here with you.” This is four years after Epstein’s 2008 conviction for procuring a child for prostitution.

I grew up with "domesticated" geese. As a child growing up with geese, you develop the ability to grab a goose by the head as it attacks you and this really upsets the goose which is when you learn that you can carry a goose by its head as long as you keep it at arm's length.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

I'm trying to learn Python at the same time I learn Manim *and* mathematical modelling and it is NOT going well. I keep coming up with ideas of things I care about that I can model and as soon as I start, I realize that I've got knowledge gaps and they aren't *simple* gaps.

So we're now less than two weeks out to the start of Olympic sliding in Cortina! Since there's some downtime before we're on ice, here's a quick run down the track, below I'll have a little thread of the curves and how they're named, and we can go into some of the trouble spots along the way.

What I find bizarre is that I have a hard time suspending my disbelief watching Fallout.
Never had a problem suspending disbelief for any of the game versions, but this show... something.

I seriously considered camping down at my Culpeper property and doing my stump-pile burn this weekend in the storm, except that I do have to work Monday and I worried that I wouldn't be able to leave on Sunday to make it home.

Watching "The OA" and the various kids all have broken phone screens, and it occured to me that in the future, kids will have to suspend their disbelief to imagine using a broken phone.

I'm in the process of building a house, and so far the most infuriating part has been the various contractors calling me and asking me my preference on things.

Bro, I'm colorblind and ADHD and work on backend software. You, however, are a Kitchen Designer. It says so right on your business card.

The book/series 11.22.63 is wild because, as somebody having lived in Lisbon Falls, that is NOT Lisbon Falls and it would have been *so* easy to make it Lisbon Falls. It's ONE crossroads. It's ONE textile mill. It's ONE main street. It's ONE pool hall disguised as a diner. It's all WRONG, Mr. King.

@profhalloran.bsky.social You're the closest thing I have to a Supreme Court justice: on the off chance that a POTUS dies in office, is it possible to impeach them for bribery in absentia?

one takeaway from the grok noncon porn thing is that much of the media just isn't interested in an issue they can't pretend has two sides or that doesn't give them an opportunity to shit on the left. Also it would be uncomfortable to justify remaining on twitter after acknowledging it

“Can’t believe NYC elected a Muslim as mayor.”

In truth—a Black American Christian woman swearing in a Ugandan American Muslim of South Asian ethnicity as his Syrian American wife holds the Qurans he swears in on, all while standing on the steps of a subway station—is the most NYC thing imaginable.

This is reprehensible. Absence of state coercion is a fundamental principle of religious freedom.

Not only is this a constitutional principle; but it is also fundamental to may religious traditions (including Catholicism).

This should be aggressively condemned.

At work, I'm the guy to go to when you don't know how to proceed with a solution. That's not real my job. I do other stuff.

It's an additional-duty kind of thing.

They come with messes at their wit's end, and I coach them through fixing it while I try to figure out why they're doing 'that.'
