Like 60 seconds ago, a black SUV pulled out of the parking lot cutting off the concert crowds walking on the sidewalk.

That's bad enough, but then two of the guys tried to open the SUV's doors.

That's some seriously scary shit. What would they have done if they'd opened?

Heartbreaking. The University of Nebraska will terminate its entire Earth science department.

One of the country's most successful and respected geology & climate programs: gone.

When ideologues & politicians are threatened by the very act of studying climate change, I wonder: who of us is next?
It's over.

Despite the fact that the academic council recommended against it, despite the fact that the program brought in more tuition than it cost, and despite the fact that Nebraskans need & deserve this expertise, Earth & Atmospheric Sciences will be cut.

BREAKING: ‘This hurts’: UNL eliminates 4 programs despite faculty, student pleas
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln eliminates the Earth and atmospheric sciences 8-0, educational administration 7-1, statistics 7-1, textiles, merchandising and fashion design 7-1 programs.

Each year, thousands of letters to Santa from around the world are answered.

When the AI boom began, copywriters were singled out as one of the jobs most vulnerable to AI. Now, three years later, I wanted to hear from workers on the frontlines of the industry, to hear what had actually taken place on the ground.

For many, it was even worse than they'd feared.

Are more reflective thinkers better at games that require empathy or perspective-taking?

In two experiments, reflective thinking performed better on such games, seemingly because they paid more attention to the other players' incentives.

NGL I sent this to my dad (the family die hard Dire Straits fan) and asked him exactly what he's been doing with his retirement.

Because whatever it is, it isn't this.

And it should be.

🤣😂 This is phenomenal. And it just gets better.

Hi all! I have a theory, and I need to test it before running it in person when the kids are back from holidays.

If you have 30-60 minutes, could you please run through this experiment for me? I'm about 20 people short.

Day 10 - Methodology

I made such a dumb mistake with my auditory go/no experiment. That said, I think I have it figured out, so this year should be easier that way.

Also, I got introduced to a really cool staircase methodology this semester I can't wait to try.

Day 9 - Publication

They will come. Publish or perish is alive and well.

I have been meaning to work on blogging lots of what I find. I'm in the process of doing this for the institute anyway.

Also we need a music cognition podcast. Maybe if I can get my workload under control 😭🙃

I can see the appeal. Could be really helpful in some instances, but the dangers far outweigh the benefits.

"Almost everyone applying has an MBA. There's nothing that makes you stand out.

Businesses today look for sociology, philosophy, etc. because those degrees equip people with unique perspectives, problem solving, management skills, and knowledge not common in their companies."
🧵Here is new data that debunks the persistent myth that sociology is in low demand among Canadian students, and that graduates struggle to find employment.

This is especially true in Alberta, a province that has been openly hostile to higher education and the social sciences.

Day 8 - challenge

Everything lately is a challenge 😂

One foot after another, one day after another, and I'll either succeed or I won't. Doors will open or close.

Either way, I tried, and I know where the line is. I know what I'm capable of.

Can't do much more than that.
