This is terrible news. There is only one outfitter in Grand Marais that will issue permits. Not sure about Ely. But, this is a huge obstacle in visiting the Boundary Waters.
Heads up, Boundary Waters paddlers! Effective immediately Ely and Gunflint ranger stations will not be issuing BWCAW permits in person this year. Permits will need to be picked up in an outfitter or an alternate forest service office.

This is terrible news. There is only one outfitter in Grand Marais that will issue permits. Not sure about Ely. But, this is a huge obstacle in visiting the Boundary Waters.

The situation in national parks is bad & getting a lot of press (yay!!). But the situation in national forests is actually catastrophic & not getting much airtime. Most of the employees in western NC, where I live, who were working on Hurricane Helene recovery were fired. www.bpr.org/bpr-news/202...

First #BigHornSheep of the season last year in #GlacierNP. This was right when #GoingtotheSunRoad opened, so there is still lots of #snow. It is incredible how quickly this guys can climb up the side of the #mountains.
