If you intended it to be used only in the case of ethical or illegal behaviour, then why didn’t you put that in the legislation?

Sloppy drafting is not a defence to the use of the law.

One could argue that the notwithstanding clause was also never meant for the purposes to which it’s being put.

There is also no officer shortage that necessitates this level of OT. VicPD has the third-most officers per capita in the country. Over policing comes with financial costs, but it also puts people at risk. We can build a world where we invest in community supports that actually keep people safe.

Anyways it seems like the government could raise the rates, address bureaucratic hurdles, make non-traumatizing mental health care available, and see a lot more benefit by allowing people paths towards stability.

Or if they say they are going to enforce involuntary treatment?

But the double speak is PR spin for the burbs.
Premier Eby will have announcement tmrw about "strengthening access to involuntary care for young people."
