It's not (because I checked), but someone in my office is playing music that sounds a bit like the One Ring theme www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw6B... #LOTR

Nothing too "weird" but with my brother's birthday on the 24th, that kind of became the "big" celebration with a real dinner & family over. Xmas was usually just us, with leftovers or takeout.
I'm sitting here thinking about weird holiday traditions. Mine would be making the lamest version of Ambrosia ever concocted and my family insisting on spaghetti for Christmas dinner. What weird traditions do you have?

Trump claims the Jan 6th insurrection was “peaceful” and that there was no insurrection. Meanwhile, federal agents have arrested a suspect in Virginia accused of planting two pipe bombs near the Capitol the night before Jan. 6, 2021. At this rate, it’s hard not to assume this

Wait a second. If I get a PhD in Finland, I get a SWORD. And a TOP HAT. Like, WTAF?

Forget studying in Sheffield if things get too bad here, I'm going to Finland.

More of this, please! Just inject it into my veins.

They go to a lake of fire and fry.” 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

Ultra rich in the Gilded Age were robber barons, who, on occasion would engage in acts of philanthropy. Any billionaires want to lift 42 million students up? Benefit would allow their earnings to flow more meaningfully into the economy, and then make education free for all. Tax oil and not learning

First, we showed him a few parody videos & the originals to give him an idea of Weird Al. Now his whole music playlist is Michael Jackson.
Watched UHF with my kid the other night. I think it might be his new favourite movie, he was in hysterics the whole movie

And then he came for 6 Democrats,
But Republicans in Congress didn’t care as they were not Democrats.
When he comes for them, they will cry out,
But no one will save them, for none will be left.

Impeach, Convict, Remove unanimously.

The present watches, but future historians will make record.

My 8yo read the word "copse" with no issue - he only hesitated about 30 seconds and he didn't try to make it a long O. Clearly I'm doing something right.

Might as well share this with the world.
-bathing at Crickhollow; despite some angst before arriving, this is really one of the last scenes where the hobbits are genuinely relaxed and 'free.'
- the Three Hunters finding Merry & Pippin; unbridled joy (and bnater)
I've been wanting to revisit a moment in Tolkien's Legendarium for comfort today, and I have my usual preferred passages for this, but I want to hear what others go to as well. What are your favorite joyful moments to return to in the Legendarium?

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.
