I knew when I looked this up that cost was going to be a factor; instruments aren't cheap and the Hurdy-Gurdy is both niche and very mechanical.
What I hadn't considered is there's also so few makers most have a wait list of a year or more. So yeah, Hurdy-Gurdy players kinda have to be committed.
