In his Hall of Fame career from 1943 to 1961, he won the Vezina and a Stanley Cup. His 13 shutouts in 1953-54 were a then-modern day record. He recorded 330 wins and 48 shutouts. He was also a three-time All-Star.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.
The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.
The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.
Why?
It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

I’m a Canadian, how did I not know the Edmund Fitzgerald sank one year before the Lightfoot song? I just presumed it was a legendary shipwreck from the early 20th century. WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH ME

The Edmund Fitzgerald sank 50 years ago today. The next year, the singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot chronicled the tragedy in an unlikely hit single.

The last thing you see before returning to Canada from Detroit before entering the tunnel is the Old Mariner’s Church, a place of prayer for those who sailed the Great Lakes.
Built in 1845, it was moved to the tunnel entrance to make way for a civic plaza.
The bell tolled 29 times 50 years ago.
