Clearly I spent some of my day today doing Very Important Things like making more screen savers. 😂🤣

I don’t go to concerts. Too much sensory stuff, usually.

The one notable exception: Over the Rhine. Love them. Don’t need earplugs to hear them live. They’re funny, sweet, and have beautiful voices. I truly don’t understand how they never launched to be more of […]

I don’t know about #koreader for the kindle 4 — so far it seems clunky and confusing to me, especially with buttons instead of a touchscreen. But the kindle reading software is just fine, especially with #calibre managing which books are on it.

No, the best part of jailbreaking is this!

One more from Herculaneum — this is of some of the things found there including a BED (made of wood!) and a wooden table.

Even more amazing, they found almonds and walnuts (zoom in to the right side of the table) that were preserved by Vesuvius’ pyroclastic flow.

Herculanum today! This is an absolute treasure of a location.

Sorrento’s special power aside from growing lemons is inlaid wood, and this pendant charmed me.

The church here has a stations of the cross done all with inlaid wood and is stunning.

This restaurant’s name is delightful. Excited to eat!

I climbed around on an active volcano yesterday! It was hard to get a picture of the caldera, and the smoke that was whisping out of parts mostly doesn’t show up on camera. But there was an amazeballs view of Napoli and Sorrento and of the Mediterranean on the other side.

In the game of “what’s this thing I haven’t seen before and is it delicious” that I play while traveling, you win some and lose some. This is a definite L. What is it? I have no idea. What is not is sweet, or tasty, or anything other than slightly salty cardboard […]

More women of the Ufizzi!
October 31, 2025 at 9:40 PM
Goodness. The Uffizi Gallery is everything I dreamed and more. For years, I’ve been like, where the fuck are all the portraits of 1480-1600 women?!

And the answer is, they’re in the Ufizzi in Firenze. Apparently the Medici collected and hung them all. Sometimes […]

Masto … what is this? Found at my Italy Airbnb. Is it for tea? It’s a wicker basket, quite small.

This is the third day my Fitbit has chided me like this. Bitch, literally all I’m doing is walking around like I live here. I can’t help it if the place I’m staying has four steep flights of stairs that I need to walk up a few times a day. 😤🤪 The alternative to […]

I used to sketch things regularly, but haven’t done it since 2018. I brought a notebook and pencils to Italy, not because I thought I’d make any masterpieces (skills too rusty), but because there’s a quality of *seeing* that happens when I’m trying to draw. I […]

Question of today: Can you pet the dog?

Answer: Sadly no, for any of these in the Vatican museum. Harrumph.

I do not hate this morning view.

I love where I live, and that I was able to vote by mail (as we do in WA). I was at my kitchen table and enjoying my coffee while thinking about things. I wish this for all of the US.

And I got a fun sticker! :)

A few photos from my walk today. I didn’t take many because (unlike many, grumble), I wanted to get explicit consent of humans I captured. Doggos seemed thrilled that their owner was feeding them treats while I took the photo, so we’re counting that. :-)

I tossed my tarot deck years ago, but was curious about specific cards for work things, so was re-looking at a Rider-Waite deck. Along the way, I got distracted by How White most decks are. Then got curious about reproducing cleaned-up cards. How hard might it be […]

@eff has the absolute best stickers ever 😍

I also have now successfully reupped my newest (hopefully non-exploding!) battery to have a “I do not consent to the search of this device” sticker on it.

What is this? It isn’t LCD, I think, nor particularly cutting edge — it basically seems like Etch-a-Sketch, but with a pressure sensor and stylus. I don’t think it actually has a battery (despite the scammy text it came with). And it seems to be attempting to […]

It’s windy outside, which means our tent is gently swaying and the chandelier is tinkling. It’s fun and sometimes a wee bit alarming when the door completely sweeps in and the light sways a lot. But still super beautiful and cozy.

Really roughing it here camping in the expedition sized canvas tent, with king size bed, chandelier (not pictured), a dining area with small fridge and microwave, and delightful communal hot showers.🤣

The campground is completely empty except for us, though, as […]

This feels safer for now given how wiggly it is. My fear right now is it will wiggle enough to make people anxious opening it, so they won’t open it at all in the future.
October 6, 2025 at 9:39 PM
It LOOKS good. I just suspect that if people try to use it they’ll get a little scared off and stop from the wiggle. #weefreecommunitylibrary
