Covering #MNUFC for the Minnesota Star Tribune (but contractually obligated to not indicate nor imply that I'm an employee, or staff member, at same). Can't shut up about Minnesota sports, but still always Minnesota nice. Also still a crackpot.

I don’t know what’s happening at Mariucci Arena these days but I’m calling for a full investigation

#MNUFC training report: Eric Ramsay, on Carlos Harvey playing 90 minutes for Panama last night: "I'm sure if the coach has had a conversation with him about how he feels and how many minutes he wants to play, he's told him perfect and 90, so not an easy player to manage, in that sense. "

A lot of people have wondered if the schedule change in MLS could result in #MNUFC playing games - league, Champions Cup, or otherwise - at US Bank Stadium.

I asked the club if there had been any discussion of that possibility, and got a flat one-word response: "No."

MLS keeps citing a figure that says 91% of games, in the new schedule, will fall during the current league window. That's a little disingenuous, given that now they play just a handful of games in November/December, and with the new setup those will be normal regular-season weeks

Story up for @stribsports.startribune.com, as MLS flips its calendar to begin in July and end in May - and play more regular-season games in late fall and winter:

Don Garber deflects a question about what kind of pushback they got from northern markets on this move. He admits that northern markets will suffer from this, but suggests that this is balanced by southern markets having suffered for years in the summer heat.

MLS also officially announced that, in 2026, all of its matches will be available as part of the base Apple TV subscription.

And for season ticket holders, congrats: "As part of the transition, an Apple TV subscription will be included as part of 2026 full-season ticket packages with MLS clubs."

It really hits you in the face how badly they dropped the ball that this isn’t starting in July of 2026. IT WAS RIGHT THERE
As part of the shift, the 2027–28 MLS regular season will kick off in mid-to-late July 2027 and conclude with the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs in May 2028.

MLS will observe a midwinter break from mid-December through early February, with no league matches scheduled in January.

Story up soon, but it's official: MLS is flipping its calendar, starting in July 2027. After a shortened season in spring 2027, the league will start its year in mid-July, pause in mid-December, re-start in mid-February, and hold playoffs in May.

At best, pros and cons here for #MNUFC fans.

Can't describe how funny it would be if he announces, like, another off-roster homegrown slot
Looks like there's white smoke rising from the MLS Board of Governors meeting: Don Garber will meet the press in just over a hour.

I think this is a good change and will make MLS games more widely available.

Not sure if we're headed for more F1 fans who discover MLS, or vice versa. Anyway to get out ahead of all of the content, Inter Miami is Max Verstappen
BREAKING: MLS will come out from behind the separate MLS Season Pass subscription beginning in 2026, per sources.

All games will be available on the Apple TV streaming service.

#MNUFC training report: perfect attendance, at least among non-internationals. Taxing session; a few players were on the ground at the end.

Talked to Wil Trapp, about his flexing at Nouhou. Trapp said he was just telling him that he shouldn't go down so easily, given he's a big guy.

For reference, here is my 5D MLS format that continues to make sure #MNUFC flies a million miles per season and plays in the Central Time Zone as little as possible
November 12, 2025 at 8:01 PM
I've been looking at this for ten minutes, but the worst 5D schedule format I can come up with so far has #MNUFC in a division with Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto, Seattle, and Portland. This means I believe 100% that this is what's happening, until someone tells me different

Sources: MLS owners are expected to vote on flipping to fall-spring calendar at Thursday's BOG meeting. Could happen as soon as 2027.

Also: Changes to competition format expected too, including single league table + divisions.

Currently working out this "five-division" schedule format, and trying to decide just how it's going to somehow end up with #MNUFC playing all its games in the Pacific Time Zone
MLS owners are *expected* to vote on flipping to fall-spring calendar at Thursday's BOG meeting. Changes to competition format also expected.

Let's see if it actually comes to a vote, but implications are enormous.

More from last night's #MNUFC win in game 3, focused on the epic penalty shootout, and on the halftime that turned things around for the Loons:
Analysis: Minnesota United’s 10-round shootout with Sounders had a bunch of subplots all its own
The shootout ended with a shot off the crossbar, marking the fifth time in two playoff shootouts at Allianz Field that Seattle had found the woodwork.

Silver linings for the international break for #MNUFC:

* St. Clair and Boxall don't have to leave North America
* Finland (Lod) plays Friday/Monday (and the 2nd is a friendly)
* Rosales is suspended for the semis anyway

Triantis (Greece) and Harvey (Panama) are Thur / Tue, meaningful games. Rough.
