They gave out about 2,000 whistles today. It was incredible but it costs money.

Please support this work! You can Venmo them @mspwhistles
More than 200 neighbors attended the Phillips community training today!

It was inspiring to see so many people come together, committed to keeping their neighbors safe.

Community members left empowered to organize their building, block, and community.

If you never saw the finale of the 90s Henson company show “Dinosaurs,” it’s a surprisingly brilliant imagination of what it’d be like if the dinosaurs were destroyed by capitalism and attempts to fix the weather that it broke. It’s on Disney+.

One thing I think is funny about Twitter showing locations is that when it was a brand new website, a large percentage of its users had the Location field entered as a latitude/longitude point, and you’d have to have a maps app to follow it. It was a wildly silly era in some ways.

Feels like this must be a known, named, & studied phenomenon. But I don’t know what it is.
Based only on the sample size of my school, I think the organizing around the SNAP shut down alerted a lot of struggling families to food assistance programs they hadn’t realized existed but *already* needed. That’s why demand is gonna stay high for foreseeable future. Until we abolish capitalism.
Even with SNAP benefits restored, this Oregon pantry says hunger persists
Packed with Pride, in Tigard, leases its pantry space from a back room at a church.

I think DOGE as a failure depends on what you think they were actually trying to achieve and whether they did it, and for people that think it was actually about saving money or increasing efficiency I really think it’s time to go back to whatever the drawing board is.

y'know, if tech companies weren't so fired up to call every single thing "AI" it would be a lot easier to distinguish "ML spam filter that is well-sandboxed and tuned on your emails" from "giant context and IP-eroding foundation model that makes people paranoid and unhappy"
since the "google is now training gemini on your email contents" thing keeps bumping around here: it's _not happening_. I say this not to defend google but because I know a lot of people that have broken their filtering and made their lives much more annoying from sheer misinformation.
The malwarebytes Google opting-your-emails-into-ai-training thing is not true. The post is based on one bad tweet.

I know anti-tech lamenting is a Bluesky core principle, but please use the same judgement you would for any other clickbait.

I tend to read two books at a time most often, and just finished two so now I get to start “Read This When Things Fall Apart,” which was an instant preorder months ago and I’m happy to get to it.

One thing that’s worth noting is that there are smart settings that use LLMs to help you write emails or whatever, but you can turn those off individually. It’s not the same as this big smart feature toggle.

I liked Wicked part 2. Spouse was annoyed by the songs that aren’t also part of the stage version, but I’ve only heard the stage music twice when seeing the play, so I couldn’t really have picked that out anyway.

In Hennepin County/Minneapolis

JOIN Library Patrons Union & get in touch with your county commissioner about how they're protecting libraries & full access in the face of conservative forces who have the will & the power of the federal admin at their backs.

Make sure you've got the library's back.

Really a wonderful list of ways to organize. Observing and potentially disrupting ICE’s activity is of course a visible and essential tactic right now, and there are a lot of other tactics as well! Many described here.

We picked up an additional 3400 3D printed Minneapolis whistles tonight.

So grateful to Chicago for sharing their resources and lessons with all of us.
With ICE and border patrol goons spreading out across the country, I put together a resource guide for buying, printing, and distributing whistles, based on my own experience. Now is the time to whistle up, hope this helps. dansinker.com/posts/202…

Mamdani's first skeet since the meeting.
Working people have been left behind in New York. In the wealthiest city in the world, one in five can't afford $2.90 for the train or bus. As I told Trump today— it’s time to put those people right back at the heart of our politics.
