Generate billions for public services by taxing the most climate-hostile behaviour of the über-rich; what's not to like?

It only takes a couple of minutes to email your MP using the template form available on the link below. It will even find your MP's email address from your postcode.

Did you know you pay more fuel tax on a single car journey than a billionaire does on a private jet flight?

Right now the gov is subsidising tax breaks, when they could be using that tax to generate billions for public services.

I have a picture in my mind of politicians still being urged to act ‘before it’s too late’ 50 years from now while the whole of the world’s population stands neck deep in water.

This puts me in mind of this quote from Kurt Vonnegut.

It's the great man's birthday today. It's safe to say that he would not have been impressed with the way our species has conducted itself in the 17 years since he died.

I can’t understand how, in the face of research like this, so many of our politicians still don’t recognise that tackling climate breakdown should be their NUMBER ONE priority.

While I’m generally impressed by @zackpolanski.bsky.social, I’m disappointed to hear him promote the false dichotomy that we need to tackle corporations INSTEAD OF taking individual responsibility for rising climate emissions.

With 1.5º target looking unobtainable, it’s clear WE NEED TO DO BOTH!

👏🏼 I love these ads, part of @badvertising.bsky.social's campaign calling on @london.gov.uk to ban advertising by airlines and other high polluting businesses on TFL.

TFL should not be promoting climate-hostile businesses at a time of #ClimateBreakdown.

I'm currently researching moles for a picture book story.

🪱 Did you know moles sometimes store earthworms (for food) in special chambers. Up to 470 worms have been recorded in one chamber.
(Source: mammal.org.uk/british-mamm...)

I'm pretty sure that won't make it into the story!

It feels like every week the Labour Government find a new way to renege on their 2024 manifesto commitment to "Make Britain a clean energy superpower". 😕

"Not flying this year, or next year, or maybe ever, is one of those choices for our family. It's one way for us to be part of the solution to climate change and not part of the problem."

For Erin and her family, going flight free isn’t about missing out, it’s about finding joy closer to home. 🌿🏕️
camping trips, visits to friends, slower holidays that still feel like adventure.
they’re choosing to be part of the solution. 💚

Our very civilization is threatened by the climate crisis, and instead of mobilizing on the scale of a world war, we treat it like a Tidy Towns initiative. Where are the leaders who think big? Who can communicate the stakes, be straight about the costs and offer hope of success? Where are you? 2/

Tesla have approved a $1 trillion pay package for Elon Musk. That's 20 billion times more than a nurse in the UK earns.

Don't let anyone tell you immigrants or disabled people are the problem. It's the richest 1% hoarding all the wealth.

Time to tax the super-rich properly.

This would be an unforgivably climate-hostile move if Reeves goes through with it.
If she wants to tax transport, she should start taxing aviation fuel. At present a teacher driving to school pays more fuel duty than a private jet owner flying to Australia.
