Do make sure it is duct tape like MacGyver’s and not the kind that is now used for duct work. MacGyver had rubber based glue, new stuff uses a synthetic that will tear soft skin.

Cynically, the oligarchs are fixing that by driving up inflation and food prices. It was bad in the 2000’s and it’s worse now.

I remember only ever getting “real jeans” during back to school sales as a kid. If I needed new ones mid year they were flimsy cotton and I tore through them in a couple weeks. Real jeans usually lasted months.

It gets on everything and is everywhere all the time. Glitter used in a vinyl print on clothes will come off in the wash and then everything has glitter!

Cars cost more and need a software subscription. Ads will be displayed on all windows unless you buy the premium subscription and then ads will only be on the side windows. If you fail to update your car it reposes itself at your expense. All cars will explode or crash if cloudflare or aws is down

Spot on. The unfortunate success of the M$ model coupled with G ads and the worship of “start up” mentality. How to do “right” is well known, yet we tech engineers continue to choose not to. We’ve created this culture.

From where I sit tech involvement is acknowledged but no introspection. Nothing asking, how did that happen from among our ranks? Answer - money. Software is a racket, spend 1000 hours to make something crappy sell it at 3x markup, charge subsc for fixes.

Everyone that has ever seen me make a mistake holds that memory forever and it is their only source from which they judge my character. This transcends time and will continue through eternity. Someone told me once they didn’t remember a mistake I made. They were just trying to be nice.

In the same vein, calling employees “human capital”, “human resources”, “resources”, or “capitalized labor”. It objectifies people and simplifies their contributions to the employer.
