Bugonia and Sinners getting nominations for Oscars is like we are living in the inverse universe. Horror and Science Fiction have long been dismissed as not real films by Academy members. I don't know why 2026 is so reasonable in this regard, but I hope it happens every year.

Mad Men S1E7 on @hbomax.bsky.social audio is off.

Listening in 5.1

Center track is on R front.

Center track is playing R front.

Obviously a mastering issue.

May also be some rear issues but these are the obvious flipped tracks.

It happens sometimes.

Many states have a key deadline today for people to enroll in an ACA plan. But Congress let expire the enhanced subsidies that helped make some of those plans more affordable. For small business owners and self-employed people, it’s created chaos: 19thnews.org/2026/01/affo...
What women business owners are poised to lose with health insurance cuts
The Affordable Care Act offered a practical pathway for more women to become self-employed. As a critical enrollment deadline expires with no subsidies, that could collapse.

I did not know there MASH had version minus the laugh track.

Now I’m interested in seeing it for the first time. To be clear, I’ve seen esp but that laugh track is a deal breaker.
The full series of "M*A*S*H" is ~$55 on DVD in the U.S., and the best feature is that on the DVD you can watch every single episode WITHOUT the network-insisted-upon laugh track, to see the show as the producers intended it to be seen.

Gil Gerard. 1943 - 2025

My Buck Rogers. Yes it was a goofy show and I love every bit of it.

He had cancer and prior to death he wrote a statement for his wife to release upon dying.

It starts
“My life has been an amazing journey.”

And concludes
“See you out somewhere in the cosmos”

Passive voice is the exception. Why “print” insists on avoiding active is a mystery to me.

I used as many active voice writing styles even when doing a series about history. And makes it alive.

See how you can use both but rely on the NOW even as you talk about the THEN.
Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.

This is one of my favorite movies.

Duke Ellington said of music, if it sounds good it is good.

That’s how art works. If something is good to you, it is and doesn’t matter why.

Xanadu is -as the song suggests- magic to me. Profoundly so.

Paul’s comparison of the new @kinolorber.com 4K is magic.
