English Public School contractions, e.g.; "not at table" as an admonishment providing correction without the definite article, give me hinterland.
Language under tension until meaning almost breaks, but doesn't quite; and memorable because of it.

I have put this to the BBC. A confusion between English as a first language & speaking English is something Nigel Farage may have hoped to exploit. But the BBC team should have been clear about what the claim was & seek to communicate that, not to themselves have misunderstood it, to them confuse
