Visiting my Dad while my Mum's away and I'm so impressed with their garden bird feeding regime. So many different birds - when did I last see a goldfinch? - while the rest of their street has maybe three weird starlings between them.

This “don’t feed the trolls” rhetoric is exactly what I got when harassers were flooding my inbox with death threats + calling local police in an attempt to SWAT my house. It’s outdated and ridiculous

Great reporting from Aftermath once again

I'm still fairly new to the #VisualNovel world (my beloved Coffee Talk notwithstanding) but I can vouch for Conway's sparkling, resonant writing and the rich, evocative visuals of part one. See you in part two!
I’m a big believer that you can talk about big, contemporary, grounded themes in even the twistiest and turniest genre fiction yarn… if these ones resonate with you, please take a punt on The Left Eye, now in early access for less than you’d spend on a pumpkin spiced latte x

This should have been an instructive moment in people’s understanding of just how much people are willing to pay economically for racism and xenophobia.
Still reeling from the Stanford report on Brexit. Reduced GDP by up to 8% and investment by as much as 18%. The UK Treasury would have £40 billion more each year if Britain had remained in the EU. Devastating self-immolation.

In 2006 I was in a musical in London. It was a critical hit, based on a film that was - and is - a significant cultural touchstone.
On press night, the original ‘Ivan’ joined us on stage for the finale.
That production changed the course of my life.
Jimmy Cliff, thank you, go well.

For graphic novels, especially adult genre fiction, it's incredibly helpful to review it online, talk about it, recommend it to a friend—adult fiction in the graphic novel space is difficult to place, and nothing convinces readers that they'll like a book more than the personal testimonial.
If you like an author's work, the best thing you can do is buy it. The second best thing you can do is ask your local library to buy it. Or, do both!
A reminder that the median book deal for a debut author in the UK is £7000, paid over 12-18 months. (from 2022 Society of Authors report). Some of your favourite writers are struggling. societyofauthors.org/2022/12/06/a....

i have never wanted to make a YouTube video before, but now i want to make one that's basically: Books Are Not Free Content For You, Stop Stealing From Authors, You Scabs.

we are not the enemy.
every dollar folks think they're taking from Amazon, they're taking from authors more.

My favourite Udo Kier role was a voice performance of his, Professor Pericles from Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated. I'd issue a spoiler warning, but he's a talking parrot voiced by Udo Kier so of course he's going to have sinister intentions.

This is why I weary of "This isn't what Star Trek IS" arguments because they frequently are the product of a narrow and unimaginative mind.

Plus, I was around the first time when it was targeting stuff I loved so I don't see much value in expending energy against something in that way.

Great stuff. The truth being that most grumpy fans are actually just sad and angry about other stuff going on.
Today I was looking at it for the first time in a while and came across one that REALLY resonated. Now DS9 is widely praised and used to attack all the new shows. People say the new shows aren't "what Trek is all about."

Let's see what people thought of that in the 90s...

Great stuff in this thread.
a few years back, I went through an archive of Ron Moore's AOL chats with STAR TREK fans and put together a document that had anything that resonated with me as a TV writer, as someone dealing with fandom, as a member of fandom, etc. It was a good way to see how little had changed in almost 30 years
